Chico, CA — (June 3, 2015) — Just 10 slim points separate the top-three in the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series standings going into Chico on Saturday. Campbell’s Bud Kaeding, Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi & Lemoore’s Carson Macedo are neck & neck, with Fremont’s Shane Golobic lurking back in 4th, only 23 behind.
In fact the top-nine are all just 58-points apart going into the fifth round of competition for the series this weekend. The driver that ranks ninth happens to be three-time series champ Jonathan Allard of Chico, who is coming off a win at Silver Dollar Speedway a couple weekends back.
Hanford, CA youngster DJ Netto, who was last year’s Rookie of the Year, captured the most recent King of the West event held in Tulare on May 16. That victory marked the 19-year-old’s first career triumph with the series.
“The King of the West Series brings many of the best drivers that California has to offer and is pretty healthy right now,” said Silver Dollar Speedway Announcer & Media Relations specialist Troy Hennig. “You have a vast amount of young drivers and many veterans that are still mainstays. It’s a real close point fight right now and I think that’s just what the series needs. We’ve had some fantastic shows this year at Silver Dollar Speedway and if you are fan of the sport, you need to be here this weekend. You won’t be disappointed. It’s going to be special paying tribute to David Tarter all weekend long.”
Saturday’s David Tarter Memorial will also be the final time this season that the King of the West Sprint Car Series competes at Silver Dollar Speedway. It kicks-off an exciting summer that includes a stop at the Stockton Dirt Track next week on Saturday June 13. A weekend off will then occur, prior to a big double-header that features the Pombo/Sargent Classic at Ocean Speedway on Friday June 26 and the Wine Country Classic at Calistoga Speedway on Saturday June 27.
Thanks to Kaeding Performance teams that support the King of the West Series on a regular basis also have the chance to earn awards by displaying the decals handed out. Companies taking part include KSE Racing Products, Winters Performance, Maxim Racing, Kaeding Performance, Joe’s Racing Products, Flowmaster, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, FK Rod Ends, Maxima Racing Oils, Ultra Lite Brakes, SCI Racing Products & Racing Optics. Roughly $600 in nightly awards are handed out at each and every KWS event courtesy of Kaeding Performance and the manufacturers.
Former King of the West Series champion Kyle Larson has also donated $500 to the nights fast time qualifier on Saturday. The evening will be capped with a 35-lap main event, in honor of Tarter’s race car number.
This Friday night June 5 also features a regular track 410 Sprint Car point race at Silver Dollar Speedway. Great camping is available on the fairgrounds for a fee of $35 per night.
The Tarter family will be selling commemorative T-Shirts, Sweatshirts & Decals during the weekend. They’ll also be raffling off a helmet & two embroidered blankets, with proceeds going to the Enloe Foundation, which provides comfort items to children served by Enloe Medical Center, as well as the Northern Auto Racing Club Benevolent Fund, which uses 100% of the funds raised to support the families of injured drivers, crew members and officials running Sprint Car Series’ in California.
The front gate at the David Tarter Memorial will open at 5pm on Saturday June 6, with adult tickets $20, juniors 12-15 will be $15 and kids 6-11 will be $6. All seating is general admission during the night. Info on the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series can be found at http://www.racepmg.com
