July 6, 2015 – Not having a race until Friday must seem like serious downtime for sprint car driver Brady Bacon! He just completed fourteen races in sixteen nights. Fortunately, Friday means USAC Indiana Sprintweek begins for him and the Hoffman Racing #69 team. Friday it will be I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Saturday is Kokomo Speedway and Sunday means a tow to Lawrenceburg Speedway.
The back end of Ohio Speedweek was highlighted by a ninth place run at Sharon Speedway near Hartford. Brady then headed to Pennsylvania, where his best run was as third place finish at Path Valley Speedway near Spring Run Sunday, June 28. “The track was really slick and I tried some different things, because we had been struggling. It worked well and we ended up third. Stevie (Smith) was a little better, but he is on fire right now. We were happy about that. We had a rough week up to that point.”
Last Thursday was the “Sumar Classic” for the USAC Silver Crown Series at the Terre Haute Action Track in Indiana. Brady made his second start of the season in Paul Martens’ #48. “We had a good solid run,” he says. “We qualified third quick. We’re getting better every time we hit the track. You don’t get a whole lot of opportunities to run that car. We’ve only been on the track about six total times. We’re still learning and getting the car better every time.”
He would ease into the 100-lap event and finish with a top five. “We ran third most of the race,” says Brady. “I had a shot at going for the lead at one point. CJ Leary was coming on the bottom. I had just gotten around him and taken his line in three and four. We had a really good car at that point. The yellow came out, and that put us behind him. We just couldn’t get going from there, and ended up finishing fifth. Considering this is our first year doing this, I think we’re right there.”
The USAC sprint car series was back in action at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Indiana on Saturday. “We seem to really struggle at places like Putnamville,” says Brady. “We go from the fastest cars in hot laps to one of the slowest cars in the feature (finishing 17th). We tried something totally different there and got the same results. We’re trying to figure out what we can do to fix the problem.”
The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver is looking forward to Indiana Sprintweek. “The Hoffman’s are putting their heads together and getting some things figured out,” says Brady. “They’ll have the car ready for Sprintweek, Hopefully, that will build us some momentum for the rest of year.”
