One year ago Peter Murphy set out to put on a race that gave drivers and fans an experience at the track that would erase the memory of the frightful night he was injured. Putting on a successful Peter Murphy Classic in 2014, Murphy has been working hard over the last year to make the 2nd running of his race bigger and better, as this year even more is up for grabs.
As a former driver himself, Murphy always felt that drivers did not race for what he though was a fair purse. The 2015 Peter Murphy Classic will boast a hearty $11,000 to the winner, and pay $1,000 just to start the King of the West Feature event.
“I cannot thank the good people in this sport enough for all of their help and support with this race,” Murphy said. “This is something I look forward to, and hearing all the buzz about this race really makes it all worth it.”
Aside from the strong A Main purse, there is several other bonuses up for grabs on this night. At the time of press, the Longest Haul will receive $500, Quick Time will receive $600, the 360 bonus will pay $400 to the highest finishing 360, $300 to the second highest finishing 360, and $200 to the third highest finishing 360, and the Steven Allard Hard Charger award will pay $1000.
With so much on the line already, Murphy is continuing to seek sponsors for this race to keep adding money to give back to the drivers and teams. If any additional backers would like to come on board, please email PJ@PetersenMediaInc.Com, or contact the Peter Murphy Classic page on Facebook.
Aside from so much going to the drivers, this is also a great event for the fans. This night features the return of the popular Australian Pole Shuffle where drivers match race in place of running the traditional dash. Murphy has also built a custom podium to be set up just behind the flag stand in front of the main grandstand so fans can join the victory celebration with their favorite drivers, and there will also be giveaways all night long as drivers from around the country have sent in various pieces of merchandise.
“This is a great event,” Murphy said. “Last year we had so much positive feedback from the fans and the drivers, and I am really looking forward to this year’s event.”
The 2015 Peter Murphy Classic is set for Saturday, July 25th at the Thunderbowl Raceway featuring the King of the West sprint cars, USAC West Coast 360’s and the RaceSaver 305’s.
