By Steve Inch SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A huge crowd was on hand Saturday evening at Selinsgrove Speedway to watch an exciting four division racing program on Driver & Fan Appreciation Night sponsored by Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center. The $2,500 victory was Tomecek’s third career at the track. Steve Campbell of Danville powered to his third win of the year in the $2,500-to-win, 25-lap super late model main event. The win marked the 48th of Campbell’s career at the track in super late model competition. AJ Stroup of Evandale wired the field for his first career win in the A&A Auto Stores 14th Annual Pro Stock 20. Stroup collected $1,000 for his 17th overall career victory in the division’s biggest race of the year. Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove was the night’s pro stock fast qualifier with a lap time of 24.323. Dustin Snook of McClure closed out the night with his second career win in the 12-lap roadrunner race. Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 2nd Annual Kramer Cup for 360 sprint cars sanctioned by the United Racing Club at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. The 25-lap tribute race to honor the memory of the late sprint car champion will pay $2,573 to win and $200 to start. Joining the sprint cars on the racing program will be the super late models and pro stocks. Track gates will open at 5 p.m. Selinsgrove Ford will hold a race car display on the dealership lot Saturday afternoon prior to the Market Street Race Car Parade through downtown Selinsgrove at 4 p.m. At the start of the sprint car feature, polesitter Kevin Albert brought out the red flag when his car turned over in turn three. On the restart, original third-place starter Jim Shuster led the first lap of the race. On the second circuit, fifth-place starter Eric Tomecek took command of the field with an outside pass in turn two and never looked back. Fourth-place starter Eric Parker held down the runner-up position while sixth-place starter Ryan Kissinger worked his way into the third spot. On lap nine, Kissinger drove by Parker for the second position and set his sights on Tomecek. With 10 laps remaining, 10th-place starer Mark Smith advanced to third. Down to seven laps to race, Kissinger started to reel in Tomecek at the front of the pack. His efforts were aided by a caution flag on lap 19 when Brian Nornhold stopped his car on the track. On the ensuing restart, Tomecek continued to set a torrid pace as Smith began to challenge Kissinger for the runner-up position. On the final lap, Smith pulled a slider on Kissinger in turn four to take the second position while Tomecek streaked under the checkered flag to take the win by 2.7 seconds. Kissinger settled for third, while TJ Stutts and Colby Womer rounded out the top five. Polesitter Danny Snyder pulled into the early lead at the start of the late model feature. Snyder was chased by fourth-place starter Donnie Schick. On a lap two restart, fifth-place starter Tony Adams moved into third while 10th-place starter Steve Campbell advanced to fourth. Two laps later Adams drove by Schick for the second spot. On the eighth circuit, Campbell made the winning pass using the inside lane in turn four. Jeff Rine, who started 12th, followed Campbell into the runner-up position as Adams raced third. In the final laps of the race, Campbell began to stretch his lead over Rine and 11th-place starter Matt Cochran, who took over third on a lap 19 restart. At the finish, Campbell was victorious by 2.3 seconds over Rine, Cochran, Adams, and second-place starter Hayes Mattern. In the Pro Stock 20, polesitter AJ Stroup drove into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Stroup was closely chased by second-place starter Nathan Long, fifth-place starter Brad Mitch, and fourth-place starter Andrew Shoop. By lap six, the top four runners broke away from the field in a close bumper-to-bumper duel for the race lead. Seventh-place starter Dave Brouse Jr. made it a five-car breakaway by the midway point of the race. On lap 11, however, Brouse was caught up in a tangle with Adam Campbell. When the race resumed, Stroup set the pace in front of Long, Mitch, and Shoop. On the 15th circuit, Long briefly pulled in front of Stroup in turn three only to lose the lead when his car drifted high racing out of turn four. Then, with two laps remaining, Shoop’s chances of a victory went away after getting caught up in a multi-car melee. Back under the green flag, Long and Mitch raced for the second position, which allowed Stroup to stretch his lead by the slimmest of margins. On the final lap, contact caused Long to brush the frontstretch guardrail and go into a wild spin. Stroup crossed the finish line and posted a one-second margin of victory over Mitch, Jake Buck, Brouse, and Brandon Moser. Long nursed his car across the finish line in the sixth position. In the roadrunner feature, Snook started in the third position and led flag to flag for the victory. He held off fifth-place starter Bob Bussey for most of the race until sixth-place starter John Fowler Jr. made a late-race charge into the second spot to put in a bid for the lead and win. At the checkered flag, Snook was victorious by just .47 of a second over Fowler, Bussey, Keith Bissinger, and Brandon Shultz.
