Atlanta, GA – September 27, 2014 – The United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters (www.uscsracing.com) returns to the 3/8 mile racing surface at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina on Saturday, October 3rd. It will be the third time the 700 plus horsepower, 1300 pound exotic race cars have invaded the re-configured version of the legendary speedway since it was reduced from a 5/8 mile oval. The Fayetteville, Georgia based series for winged outlaw style sprint cars had a successful return on the same weekend last October. The event is the Finale of the 7th annual Carolina Thunder Nationals during the nineteenth season of competition for the USCS.
The sprint car portion of the event promises to be loaded with an action-packed racing program with some of the country’s top ranked drivers and sprint car talent racing for pride and glory for each of their regions in this only third-time ever USCS North vs. South Shootout sprint car challenge event at the Cherokee Speedway. Saturday night’s racing action features a full program of USCS winged outlaw style sprint car racing plus racing in five of Cherokee Speedway’s most popular weekly racing divisions.
Additionally the action-packed racing card features the winged www.rockauto.com USCS 600 Sprint Car Series mini/micro sprints who will streak around the speedway at speed’s well over 100 miles per hour too. The speedway’s popular SECA Late Models (who will be racing for $1000 to win) plus the Limited Sportsman, Crate Sportsman Stock Four and Xtreme Four cylinder divisions will join the two sprint car divisions with special events of their own on Saturday night.
The Cherokee Speedway USCS event is expected to bring top winged outlaw sprint car drivers from at least eight states to the track from as far away as Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, Mississippi and Arkansas. The exotic fire breathing, alcohol burning, 700 horsepower open-wheeled USCS sprint cars weight just 1,300 pounds, and are pound for pound the World’s most powerful short track race cars. The cars will literally fly around the track surface at speeds well over 130 M.P.H. It is not uncommon to see the USCS sprint cars popping “wheelies” or doing wheel stands because of the brute force of their engines and their huge 17-inch wide rear tires.
The USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint cars and the USCS 600 Sprint Car Series winged mini sprints will contest a full racing program including their Speed Dash, Qualifying Heat races and Main Events on Saturday night. The five Cherokee Speedway weekly racing series drivers will be racing for increased prize money in each division.
Adult grandstand admission on Saturday night is $20 with children 10 years and younger admitted FREE. Pit area gates will open at 4:00 pm. The grandstand gates open at 5:00 pm.
