From J&J
McKENZIE, TN – Ray Allen Kulhanek won a pair of races last weekend for J&J Auto Racing and Daren Bolac picked up one while Morgan Turpen wrapped up an incredible 2015 season by claiming the USCS Mid-South division title to give her all three titles this year in USCS (National, Mid-South and Southern region).
TEXAS GRAND
Ray Allen Kulhanek scored a pair of wins driving Randy Allen’s No. 1 J&J in the Texas Grand at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. Kulhanek was victorious in Friday’s opening night 305 feature event and then completed the weekend sweep by racing to victory in Saturday’s feature event.
Daren Bolac raced his No. 44 J&J to victory in Saturday’s Carolina Racesaver Sprint Car Series event at Sumter Speedway. Bolac was patient and found himself with a shot at the lead midway through the race. He took advantage of the opportunity and raced to a popular victory. The winner was clearly excited in victory lane and closed with “I’ll be back.”
Five of the top six cars were J&J Auto Racing machines. Scott Lawrence (No. 98h J&J) was second, Tim Perry (No. 36 J&J) finished third, Mike Sellers (No. 88 J&J) was fifth and Brian Lawson (No. 14 J&J) completed the top-six.
TURPEN CHAMPION IN USCS
Morgan Turpen finished 11th Saturday night in her No. 10m J&J at Riverside Speedway in W. Memphis, Arkansas. By doing so, Turpen became the first-ever female champion of a national sprint car touring series, and also allowed her to sweep all three USCS titles (National, Mid-South and Southern) in 2015.
“This is huge, both for me and for this team of ours,” Turpen said of her final results. “As far as tonight went, I knew when Crawley put Marshall a lap down that there was no need for me to be fighting up near the front and potentially wreck a good piece of equipment.”
“I’m happy. I knew from the beginning of the night when Derek [Hagar] withdrew to let Marshall run the dash that it was going to be tough, but we persevered and we prevailed. It feels amazing tonight; I couldn’t be happier. We’ve had a very consistent season and it shows by us sweeping all three championships.”
Turpen wasn’t the only J&J racer to claim USCS awards in 2015 as 16-year-old Nick Snyder won the 2015 USCS National Rookie of the Year after driving his No. 16 J&J to a third-place finish in the National points standings.
