After a week off from racing to let the King of the West Series take to Placerville Speedway, Greg DeCaires and his Dale Miller Motorsports team returned to the famous red clay on Saturday night and charged to a sixth place finish with the Civil War Series during the 11th Annual Mark Forni Classic.
With 27 cars checked into the pit area vying for the $5000 top prize, DeCaires would time the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino No. 4SA machine in 18th quick after going out very late in the qualifying session.
Lining up sixth in his heat race, DeCaires would avoid a multi car pile up on the opening lap of his heat race and pick up a few positions. Racing his way to the second spot, the Elk Grove, CA driver would find himself in the seventh row for the 30-lap A Main event.
On an extremely slick Placerville Speedway surface that had an ultra thick cushion built up in both ends, DeCaires would work his way forward in the opening 10-laps as he would find himself in the Top-10 when the race’s first caution flag flew.
The ensuing restart would see DeCaires get by Steven TIner and Andy Gregg as he would run in the eighth spot when the caution again flew on the 13th lap. Continuing to work his way forward, DeCaires would then get by Kalib Henry and Justin Johnson as he took over the sixth spot, and began working on Jake Morgan who ran ahead of him in fifth.
A final caution on the 25th lap would set up a five lap shootout to the finish, and would place DeCaires right on Morgan’s tail. With the veteran trying to get around the youngster it would be to no avail as DeCaires closed his night with a great run to finish sixth from his 14th starting spot.
Greg DeCaires and the Dale Miller Motorsports team would like to thank Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic, Thompson’s Auto Center, RedHawk Casino, NAAKE Suspension, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Gary Morgan Graphics, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Smith Precision Products, MotoWear, Frank’s Auto Body Shop, and Wesmar Racing Engines for their support.
