Indy Brings Out the Kid in Me

After starting the year with gale force winds, arctic conditions, and lots of rain mother nature finally spotted the Slideways crew a decent weekend last week when we headed out to Gas City I-69 Speedway, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and US 24 Speedway in Logansport, Indiana. […]

TJ’s Notes & Quotes from Eldora All Stars

The biggest pre race news was the involvement of Joe Darmofal buying a controlling interest in the All Star Circuit of Champions. Joe has sponsored teams in the past, and was formerly the head of the Motorsports Alloys division of TW Metals. Joe has been a staunch All Star supporter and will do a great job leading the group into the future. To avoid speculation, a press release from the All Stars will be forthcoming and we will have an interview with Darmofal this weekend. […]

Gearing Up For a Triple Variety Weekend!

The 2002 season kicked off with a rather auspicious start with openers at Attica Raceway Park and Eldora Speedway getting cancelled due to inclement weather earlier in the week. Both Janet Holbrook and Earl Baltes did a great job forgetting the word out early about the cancellation. […]

Ohio “4 four all” Shows Potential

This week the United States Auto Club officially announced plans for an Ohio swing to feature the National Sprint Car and Midget series at four prominent dirt tracks. Ohio was the founding ground of the “Speedweek” format where winged racers crisscross the Buckeye state. Now USAC has taken this concept into a four-day weekend that makes way too much sense in a sport that does not make sense very often. […]

Weekend Leftovers and Hangovers from Eldora and Gas City

The Gumout Series got a bit of bad news and a bit of good news on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway concerning who would be chasing the 2001 title. Saturday the Guy Forbrook team with Jeff Shepard secured funding to stay on the road with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws. No word on who the sponsor will be. […]

Anderson Double Dip Was Worth the Trip

What a difference a week makes. Last weekend saw myself and a guest freeze at Attica through a tremendous feature, warm up slightly only to have it rain before the heat races at Eldora, and then see snow on the way home when we should have been seeing a double dip with USAC Worldcom National midgets and Stoops/Freightliner Sprint Cars. The Anderson event was rescheduled for one week later, and at the last moment Mudclodbob, Patrick Poor, and myself hopped in the car and headed down to the Glen Niebel Classic. […]
