FISHER, ROBERTS, PETERSON AND GUNDERSON WIN AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY

From Kelly Hart

Alger, WA — (August 4, 2012) — Make it four wins in a row in for 410 Sprint car point leader Eric Fisher at Skagit Speedway. Also visiting main event winners circle were Derek Roberts in the Sportsman Sprints, Jared Peterson in the USAC Midgets and Ben Gunderson in the Outlaw Hornets.

Fast time in the 410 Sprint division was set by Canadian visitor David Miller in his first ever 410 Sprint car event with an 11.843 second lap around the 3/10th mile high banked clay oval. Heat race winners were Toni Lutar and Jonathan Jorgenson. Kevin Smith started off the 410 main event winning the drag race with Lutar down the front straight and was checked out from the field. Disaster struck on lap 14 when Smith tangled with a lapped car coming out of turn 4 and spun down onto the apron at the flagstand. Fisher who had just passed Lutar in a great battle for third picks up the lead. From there it was all Fisher picking up his 4th straight win and extending his point lead over 3rd finishing Barry Martinez. Lutar finished second.

On opening night of the 2012 race season defending Sportsman Sprint Champion Derek Roberts was in victory lane. But not again until tonight as Roberts led all 20 laps to win the Sportsman Sprint main. Cory Swatzina, Steve Parker, Zach McCabe and Bill Rude rounded out the top 5. Fast time was Parker at 13.135. Winning the heat races were Rude and Dave Mead.

Jared Peterson has parlayed a wicked fast USAC Midget along with his extensive experience at Skagit Speedway into a monster Skagit Speedway USAC Midget season. Peterson led all 20 laps of the Main Event and extended his point lead in the division. Second through fifth went to Chase Goetz, Tyler Anderson, Garrett Thomas and Garrett Johnson. Thomas and Johnson won the heats.

In the Outlaw Hornet main event Ben Gunderson led all but one lap for the win. Rick Young overtook Gunderson in traffic late in the race but Gunderson body slammed his way back into the lead on the 16th lap and the two raced wheel to wheel to the line with Gunderson getting the win.

Next race is August 11th with winged Sprint Cars and Outlaw Hornets. Grandstands open at 5:30 pm and racing at 7:00 pm.
