WINTER CHALLENGE OPENS 2013 USAC SOUTHWEST SPRINT CAR SEASON

Peoria, Az — (January 11, 2013) — In just two weeks, the 2013 season for the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series will open at Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park. Starting on January 25th, the “2nd Annual Winter Challenge” will feature six races in nine days that will draw many talented drivers from across the country.
Promoted by Kevin Montgomery, the 1/3-mile facility is offering more than $100,000 in total purses for the non-point “Arizona Speed Week” with IMCA Modifieds. The co-sanctioned main events with the USAC West Coast Sprint Cars will pay at least $2,000-to-win, while the winner of the February 2nd finale will take home $5,000.
Among the early entries are five-time Arizona Champions Charles Davis Jr. and Jeremy Sherman. Both drivers could match could match Ricky Johnson’s six “Copper State” titles with the USAC Southwest crown. Tracy Hines, who won last year’s “Winter Challenge,” USAC National Champion Bryan Clauson, and Robert Ballou will lead a strong Midwest contingent. Bud Kaeding, the defending USAC West Coast Champion, will make the trip from California to the “Valley of the Sun.”
USAC Southwest and West Coast Series rules will be followed, including the tire rule. The pit gate will open on 2:00pm on weekends and 4:00pm on weekdays. Racing will start on 5:00pm on weekends and 7:00pm on weekdays.
Canyon Speedway Park is located at 9777 West Carefree Highway in Peoria, Arizona. To get to the track, take Lake Pleasant Parkway, then 1.3 miles west on Carefree Highway. Discounted six day passes for VIP Suite, Reserved, and General seats are available until January 24th. A general meeting for the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15th at the Racers Advantage Store. Located at 3534 E. Broadway in Phoenix, the meeting will begin at 6:30pm and is open to anyone. USAC membership packets will be available and questions will be answered.
