Closing out his 2013 US season at the World Finals over the weekend, Shane Stewart had a very big weekend as he ran well with Hill’s Racing, but also announced that he would be the driver for the brand new Larson Marks Racing team in 2014.

“Overall it was a great weekend for myself, the Hill’s Racing team, and the new Larson Marks Racing team,” Stewart said. “I really have to thank Miles Hill and everyone for working so hard all weekend.”

Qualifying 11th fastest for the Friday night show, Stewart lined the Gaerte Engines/XYZ Machining/Cool Chassis up on the front row for his heat race alongside Jason Sides, and scored a second place finish, moving  him into the evening’s Dash.

Lining up on the outside of the front row of the Dash, Stewart got hung out on the top of the speedway as everyone dove to the bottom and he finished fifth, putting the Townline Variety/Bear Paw Convenience/ Iroquois Hereford Farms machine in the third row for the feature event.

Stewart wasted no time jumping into the fourth spot when the race went green, as he mixed it up with Sides, and Joey Saldana.

Battling against two hard competitors, Stewart hit his marks and held down the fourth spot right.

Back in action on Saturday night, Stewart’s night would not go nearly as well as it did on Friday night.

Timing in eighth fastest for the Saturday show, Stewart scored a third place finish in his heat, and transferred to the Feature Event where he lined up in the ninth row, but Stewart’s feature didn’t last.

Engine issues forced the Bixby, OK native turned Avon, IN resident into the pit area and his 2013 season in the US was over.

“It was a bummer way to end the year, but I have to thank the Hill family for everything, and the chance to run their car,” Stewart said. “I’m now looking forward to getting down to Australia and working with the Monte Motorsports bunch, and really excited to get going with the Larson Marks team next year.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-83, Wins-14, Top 5’s-40, Top 10’s-49.

ON TAP: Stewart will now head to Australia, and his first race will be December 20th at the Premier Speedway.
