– WHEATLAND, Mo. (May 6, 2014) – Andrew Felker rebounded from a wild start to his weekend by posting a pair of top 10s with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series in his home state.

After starting on the outside of the front row of his heat race last Friday at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., Felker led the first half of the race before flipping in turns one and two.

“I jumped out to the early lead running the top on the rough side of the track,” he said. “I managed to run through the holes the first three laps without messing up. On the fourth lap I hit the hole wrong. It bottomed out the car and bicycled up and started flipping from there.”

Felker was unable to restart the heat race and his team used a backup car for the remainder of the night, which forced him to start at the back of the B Main. Felker then maneuvered from 11th to a fourth-place finish in the consolation race to earn a transfer to the 30-lap feature.

“I got off to a really good start,” he said. “I went from 20th up to ninth or 10th in the first eight or nine laps. Then we had a car spin in front of us. I got on the brakes and climbed up on their left rear. It basically let the whole field back by us.”

Felker dropped to about 18th position before he mounted another comeback.

“Early in the race it was dry slick across the track except the bottom was slimy,” he said. “I was running in high and coming off the bottom to use moisture on exit.”

Toward the end of the race Felker used whatever track he could as he advanced to a seventh-place result.

“It was good to rebound, but we probably had a top-three car if it wasn’t for getting caught up with another car,” he said.

The team headed to Lucas Oil Speedway for Saturday’s event, which began by Felker winning his heat race from the pole position. That started him on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

“They reworked one strip on the top and one strip on the bottom of the track,” he said. “It was pretty much follow the leader on the bottom. I jumped out of line around Lap 14 or 15 to try out the top. There really wasn’t much there and I lost a couple of spots. About Lap 20 a couple of cars finally jumped up top.”

Despite losing brakes with approximately 10 laps remaining, Felker rallied to post a fifth-place finish. It was his third top five of the season.

“I definitely feel like we had a better car both nights and it would have been nice having a better run being around somewhat of a home crowd,” he said. “But with how our luck has been this year, we’ll take them and build off them.”

Felker will compete this Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., and this Saturday at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., with the Honda USAC National Dirt Midget Series and POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.
