STYRES/HILL’S RACING PR: CHASING CHAMPIONSHIPS

By Tommy Goudge
August 28, 2014 – Ohsweken, Ontario – The Styres/Hill’s Racing team has had a busy and successful month, and they have several championships within reach over the next couple of weeks. They’re racing with heavy hearts this weekend though, as a very important member of the racing community and great person was lost this week when Humberstone Speedway owner Pete Cosco passed away suddenly. The Styres/Hill’s team would like to send their condolences to Pete’s family and friends.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 8
Glenn Styres, Keith Dempster, and Dain Naida were part of Ohsweken Speedway’s 360 Sprint Car division contingent defending home turf against the Empire Super Sprints tour drivers on Friday, August 8. Ryan Hunsinger, Aaron Turkey, and Dylan Westbrook also competed for the team in the Crate Sprint Car division.
Glenn’s night was an adventure, as he had trouble in his heat race and again in the B-Main, and ended up using a provisional starting spot to start 23rd in the feature. He drove from the tail of the field to finish 7th in the feature, while Dain finished 8th, and Keith finished 12th. Ryan drove from 8th to 1st in the Crate Sprint Car feature, while Aaron started 14th and made it all the way to 2nd, and Dylan came from 13th to finish 5th.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 9
Glenn Styres, Keith Dempster, and Dain Naida travelled to Brighton Speedway for a Southern Ontario Sprints event on August 9.
Glenn was running 2nd when race leader Mitch Brown dropped out with broken steering just before the halfway mark of the 25 lap race, allowing Glenn to inherit the lead and go on to win the feature. Dain drove from 21st to finish 9th, while Keith was credited with 17th.
Glenn now holds a 70 point advantage over Mitch Brown at the top of the SOS championship points standings, while Keith is currently 3rd.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 15
Dain Naida, Glenn Styres, and Keith Dempster again represented the Styres/Hill’s team at Ohsweken Speedway on August 15 in the 360 Sprint Car division, while Dylan Westbrook, Ryan Hunsinger, and Aaron Turkey raced in the Crate Sprint Car division.
Dain took the 360 Sprint Car feature win after a good race with 14 year old Dane Lorenc, while Glenn made a late charge and almost stole the win before settling for 2nd, and Keith finished 5th. Dylan took his first career Crate Sprint Car feature win and set a new 15 lap track record in the process, while Ryan drove from 11th to finish 3rd, and Aaron was involved in a spectacular crash at the start of the race which ended his night.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 22
Wayne Johnson joined Glenn Styres, Keith Dempster, and Dain Naida for a 360 Sprint Car tripleheader weekend, which started on Friday at Ohsweken Speedway, while Ryan Hunsinger, Aaron Turkey, and Dylan Westbrook competed in the Crate Sprint Car division.
Wayne started on the pole of the 360 Sprint Car feature and held off the advances of Ryan Ruhl to get the feature win, while Glenn finished 4th, Dain took 5th, and Keith came home 7th. Ryan finished 3rd in the Crate Sprint Car feature, while Aaron finished 6th, and Dylan was credited with 9th after an off-track excursion cost him 2 laps.
Glenn continues to lead the 360 Sprint Car championship points standings at Ohsweken, while Keith is up to 6th. Ryan is close to clinching the inaugural Crate Sprint Car division championship at Ohsweken, while Aaron is 2nd in those standings.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 23
Glenn Styres, Keith Dempster, Dain Naida, and Wayne Johnson travelled to Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday, August 23 for a Patriot Sprint Tour Canada event. Wayne brought home the team’s best finish as he took the runner-up spot behind winner Jared Zimbardi, while Keith finished 7th, Dain finished 8th, and Glenn took 13th.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 24
The tripleheader weekend finished at Cornwall Motor Speedway with another PST Canada event. Dain was the best of the 4 team drivers, as he finished 7th in the feature race, while Wayne came home 9th, Keith finished 13th, Glenn took 14th.
MICRO SPRINTS
Dylan Westbrook and Alex Hill have both competed for the Styres/Hill’s team in Micro Sprint events at Lime Rock Speedway in Leroy, New York this month. Rain curtailed their feature race on August 16, when Alex was in the 5th position, and Dylan was running 6th. They returned on August 23, with Dylan finishing 8th, and Alex finishing 15th. Alex recently tested her new Crate Sprint Car, and may get a chance to compete in it once or twice before the end of the season.
