Rumney NH — (May 10, 2015) — The NAPA Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) tour kicked off the 2015 racing season with a rain shortened visit to Legion Speedway in Rumney, NH.

Legion Speedway’s new promoter, Dean Hanson, filled the stands and drew a good field of cars. SCoNE brought 20 cars which usually dictates a B-main to set the 18 car feature, but with the addition of the Dash race, the organizers decided to forgo the B-Main and start all 20 cars.

The drivers drew for starting positions in the qualifiers and lined up with the rookies in the back. Dan Douville started 5th in the first qualifiers and quickly worked his way to the front for the win. Jake Williams and Rick Martel rounded out the top 3 in first heat. Kevin Chafee started on the pole in the second qualifier and led the whole way for the win, followed by Tyler Austin and Butch Valley.

After the track intermission, the top 3 cars from each qualifier lined up for the new 5-lap Dash for the Cash series sponsored by NH Groundscapes. Starting on the outside pole, Kevin Chaffee and pole sitter Butch Valley dueled for the 5 laps with Kevin taking the win and the $100 prize. Butch settled for 2nd.

The SCoNE feature was the last event of the day and with darkening skies and rain threatening, the track officials hustled to get the feature in. A fire on rookie Toby Tatro’s new car stopped the race on lap one. With the rain starting, the feature restarted, but was red-flagged with just 5 laps completed. With a steady rain mixed with thunder and lightning, racing for the day was cancelled. The track will run a double feature when SCoNE returns to Legion Speedway on June 7th.
