Interim promoter and business managers named for Knoxville Raceway

Knoxville, IA — (August 19, 2015) — The Marion County Fair Board has named John McCoy and Gary Shumaker to finish the season assisting to fill the role of General Manager at Knoxville Raceway following Brian Stickel’s resignation following the FVP Knoxville Nationals. According to a report by KNIA/KRLS radio in Knoxville the decision was made during a special closed session by the board on Tuesday.

McCoy will take on the role of interim promoter while Shumaker will fill the role as interim business manager for the remainder of the 2015 season. McCoy is best known of the duo in the sprint car world as the race director at Knoxville and has led many technical and safety rule changes for the sport. Shumaker is the Director of Accounting/Human Resources.

Stickel resigned his post after not being able to come to an agreement with the fair board on how to approach a major improvement project at the raceway that was slated to cost over seven million dollars. As of now no official candidates have been named as potential replacements for the General Managers position.
