TELFORD, PA. – September 9, 2015 – Sammy Swindell had a feeling that he would have a good shot at the annual Jackson Nationals at Jackson (Minn.) Speedway. With long-time supporters Mainstream Holdings & Big Game Treestands on board, and CJB Motorsports equipment underneath him, the Germantown, Tenn. driver went on a tear as the FVP National Sprint League closed out the summer months.
“It was great to get two wins,” said Swindell, driver of the Big Game Treestands, Main Stream Holdings, Muddy, All Star Performance #1. “I also want to thank Tod Quiring, his family and the NSL Series for being so generous and raising money for my son, Kevin, during his recovery from a racing injury. Thanks also to Clint Garner and his guys for coming over to help out the team throughout the weekend.”
Swindell was quick from the get go on the first night of the Jackson Nationals as he timed in fastest overall, charged from 6th to 1st in his heat race and started the main event in the 4th position.
“We knew we had a good advantage,” said Swindell. “I felt if we could get a good qualifying lap we’d be on the front row no matter how the heat race went. It took a lot of pressure off. As long as we didn’t have any mechanical problems, I felt like we had a good shot at winning.”
On the second night, Swindell was just as stout.
“I felt like (the track) was going to get to where we’d be wearing the tires down,” Swindell said. “Once I got out front it was try to make conservative laps and run as hard as I needed to. We were able to work it the whole way. Before halfway there was some (rubber on the track). After five laps there was a couple of places and I knew it’d get better where you’d have some grip. I didn’t have a lot of lapped traffic to deal with the way the yellows came out, which helped.”
As Swindell terrorized the competition in the Midwest, his teammate, Paul McMahan, was continuing his trek with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on the west coast. The opening night of the Monster Meltdown at Skagit Speedway near Alger, Wash. was washed away by Mother Nature. On the second night McMahan went for a wild ride in the feature.
“Getting rained out on the first night at Skagit was a bummer,” said Paul McMahan, driver of the Bairs Tree Service, Nyce Crete & Landis Block & Concrete and All Star Performance #51. “Unfortuantely, we didn’t end up much better on night two as we ended up in a wreck. It was a hard flip and I was a bit sore the next day. It was just another case of bad luck. Luckily, I have some of the best guys in the business and they were able to bounce back from it pretty quickly.”
On Labor Day itself, McMahan and the #51 team competed at Greys Harbor Raceway near Elma, Wash. Once again, car #51 flashed some excellent speed.
“At Elma, we were good from the start,” said McMahan. “We laid down a good lap in time trials, went backwards a little bit in the heat race but won the dash. That put us up front for the feature. We led a good portion of it but got a bit loose at the end. Donny was able to get underneath me. I just caught the lap cars and there’s no place for them to go with the holes on the bottom and you’re hoping they’ll get out of the way but they’re racing just as hard as we are. I just got beat.”

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will continue their trek down to the west coast with a stop at Cottage Grove (Ore.) Speedway before landing in northern California for the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
“Cottage Grove is a neat little race track,” said McMahan. “It’s a fun place to race with good fan support. I am really looking forward to getting back to Chico. I grew up racing there and Gold Cup is like the Knoxville Nationals for us guys from the west coast. We’ve been strong there in the past. I think we’re right there when it comes to contending for a win. It would certainly be a highlight of our season and my career. “
