WINDOM, Minn. (Nov. 17, 2015) – Dale Blaney certainly met his lofty goals during the 2015 campaign.
“At the beginning of the year I had a few goals,” he said. “The first goal was to win the All Star championship and we accomplished that. My second goal was to win a World of Outlaws race and we accomplished that. The third goal was to win a major race, whether it be Knoxville Nationals, Kings Royal, National Open, and I feel we did that at the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup. I felt like everything we wanted to do this year we did.”
However, there was a point of uncertainty in the spring when the veteran was looking for a new ride. Blaney and his longtime crew chief George Fisher found a partnership with CH Motorsports and Mainstream Holdings, Inc., which materialized into Blaney running up front for the remainder of the season.
“George and I have been together pretty much since 2002,” he said. “We’re both really comfortable with what we do and what we expect from each other. Last year we had a great year. I won more races than I ever have. For about three weeks (earlier this year) we had no clue what we were going to do. Tod Quiring was huge for us. If not for him I don’t know what we’d do. Also, it was huge for Janet Holbrook and Aaron Call getting involved with us. Putting a team together like that, it was more than what we’ve ever had; a great truck and trailer, great cars, great motors. Everything we need is what we have. Sometimes expectations are pretty hard to follow. I felt like we held up our end of the bargain and did a pretty good job.”
The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed team finished the season with 16 feature victories, which ranks third in a season for Blaney. Twelve of those wins were during UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions action leading to Blaney scoring his sixth career series title.
However, it was a pair of World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series triumphs that stand out to Blaney. He was first victorious on May 29 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, before picking up another Outlaws win – as well as the overall event title – during the famed Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., on July 21.
“Those are probably the two main ones,” he said. “At Attica we’ve won the Outlaws race the last two years. I think I’ve won three there overall. We always seem to run well. And at Lernerville we started 10th and we drove by (Daryn) Pittman, (Brad) Sweet, (Kerry) Madsen and then (Donny) Schatz. Donny is the best when it comes to slick tracks and driving on that. I’d say if you were to put up a video of our season that would be the highlight.”
The two World of Outlaws triumphs give Blaney 11 total with the series, which is tied for 27th all time. It also marked the first time since 2012 that Blaney has recorded multiple Outlaws victories in a season.
Blaney said he anticipates next year being a similar situation with the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored team.
“We’re in a great area to run 75 races a year and that’s what we’ll do,” he said. “It’s a big area for Big Game and Muddy with the hunting in Ohio. We’ll stay with what we’ve got. It’s a great fit for us. I don’t know how many years I have left racing for the All Star championship – four, five or six maybe – so I’d like to win as many of those as I can.
“I want to thank Tod and everyone at Big Game for stepping up to support us this year as well as Janet and Aaron for the opportunity. Also, thank you to George for his hard work. We have a great team and I can’t wait to get next season underway.”
