PENNGROVE, CA – Anyone who has ever met 18-year old Alissa Geving of Penngrove, California knows she is an overachiever, never giving up on her very solid goals. A two time Petaluma Speedway track champion and a former Civil War Series Rookie of the Year, Geving will return full time in 2010 to both campaigns and looks make it her strongest year yet.
“I’m ready to get back behind the wheel,” said Geving, as she prepared for a driver debut in the famed Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Oklahoma later this week. “Last year we won the championship but didn’t win a lot of races doing it, this year I’m ready to go out and win more races and a third championship.”
Geving has already claimed the title as the youngest female to ever win a sprint car feature event and duel championships in the nation. Should the third generation open wheel driver claim a third title in 2010 it will mark another history making year as no man, or woman has ever claimed three straight sprint car titles at Petaluma Speedway.
“I don’t think too much about the records and the history, I love to race sprint cars and I want to win,” said Geving, who has always maintained great modesty despite the strong media attention she receives in the male dominated sport. “But I have to say it would mean a lot to me to make history at Petaluma with a third championship at the same track my Dad and my Grandfather won on.”
Petaluma Speedway is an action packed 3/8 mile dirt track located in the heart of the Sonoma coastal range and the California Wine County. The facility hosts some of California’s top talent nearly every Saturday night from March until October. Last season Geving was amidst a championship battle for much of the season with fellow local favorite Bradley Terrell. The two locals raced within single digits until the final weeks of the season. Terrell suffered a late season accident that slightly increased the margin and Geving claimed her title prior to the end of the season.
“We really had a great rivalry going last year,” said Geving. :”It was too bad that Bradley (Terrell) had the crash with a lapped car so late in the year. It could have very well gone either way right down to the last night. I didn’t think the second one was going to be so stressful but I found that was. This year we want to race to win races and with that the points will come accordingly.”
In 2008, Geving claimed the Rookie of the Year title in the competitive Civil War Sprint Car Series. Last season she raced in a very limited number of events on the tour and plans a fulltime effort in the series in the year to come.
The Civil War Sprint Car Series is California’s premier racing season for 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars. The series competes annually at more than five different tracks and more some 15 total events. The campaign draws the best drivers from California and the Pacific Northwest and is known for its great competition, diversity and its sell-out crowds at nearly every event on the annual tour.
“I love racing with the Civil War Series, we didn’t make a fulltime effort of it last season and I am ready to return to the full series,” said Geving. “Petaluma is my home track where my Dad and my Grandfather raced and I want to continue that tradition not only for myself for my local fan base and sponsors that have supported me all along. The Civil War allows us to do just that.”
The Petaluma All Pro Series will begin on April 3. The Hoosier Tires Civil War Series is set to being on Saturday, March 20 at Placerville Speedway. Alissa Geving and her Chick-O-Motorsports Team will likely compete at the pre-season Mini Gold Cup and the Silver Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico pending additional sponsorship.
