Darryl Campbell took his maiden victory at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway, winning Round 12 of the Track Championship on Saturday Night. Campbell had strong competition throughout the A Main, with challenges from Ian Madsen and Mitch Dumesny over the 30 lap duration.
Ecstatically, Campbell commented, “It feels absolutely awesome! We had a great night all night.”
The night showed promise from the start, with the Heeley Motorsport’s #94 qualifying in second position, a mere 0.012 seconds off quick time. This was backed up with a top three finish in the heat and a second position in the dash.
“We just stuck to our game plan tonight. After bumming out in the B Main in Tuesday night, I watched Donny Schatz for 40 laps as he rolled the middle so well, and I thought if I could ever do that, I’ll win a race,” the Cranebrook resident confessed.
“From green to checker, my whole purpose was to roll the middle as I had seen Donny Schatz do the other night, and I thought if I stuck to my game plan the others wouldn’t catch me.”
Saturday’s win was the first of Campbell’s Sprintcar career, coming in just his fourth full season of racing for Grant and Karin Heeley. The win was the reward for the patience, determination, persistence and hard work for all involved in Heeley Motorsports.
Campbell sits 11th in the TPCR Track Championships standings, with just seven rounds to go. This weekend he’ll be back at Parramatta striving for a second feature win when World Series returns to DC’s home track.
