After the first significant snowfall of the winter across Northern Ohio, many in the area are looking to dig themselves out to get their racing fix by attending the 2nd Annual Racer’s Chili Challenge presented by the Fremont/Attica Sprint Title and Hoserville Ohio. The event takes place on Saturday, February 20th at the Ballville Township Community Hall (1413 W. Cole Rd.) in Fremont, Ohio.
We encourage the local racing community to come out and support this event with proceeds going towards the 2010 F.A.S.T. point fund and to help out the injured drivers benevolent fund from the Hoserville Ohio organization. “Its a great way to do a little bench racing during the long off-season,” stated F.A.S.T. co-founder Bryan Autullo. “We’ll have videos playing of the 2009 season highlights, driver interviews, show cars, and copies of F.A.S.T., Fremont Speedway & Attica Raceway Park 2010 schedules. You can also pick up one of the new F.A.S.T. hoodies while you are there.”
Three award-winning teams from the inaugural chili cook-off have signed up to contend in this year’s event. Currently leading the divisions in entries is the fans & media division with seven teams entered including The Racing World, Team Shiets, The King’s Den, 4thturnfreaks, Fremont Speedway, Scoop & Becky and Jake The Snake. 3J Motorsports, Hammer Motorsports & Colvin Racing make up the 410/305 sprint car division and are all returning competitiors. The late model & dirt truck division consists of two returning teams in Chuck Roelle Racing & Schwochow Racing, while Hennig Racing will be stirring their first pot of chili in competition. If you think you can make a better chili than these teams can, time is running out to submit your entry form.
It’s the last call for any potential chili team looking to compete in the second chili cook-off. Just days before the Monday, February 15th entry deadline, currently three of the five award-winning teams from the inaugural event are returning to take their shot at the “People’s Choice Award” chili pot trophy and their choice of either a $100 Kistler Racing Products gift certificate or $100 cash. Also, each divisional winner will get a chili pot trophy and a prize pack from Fremont Speedway, Attica Raceway Park, F.A.S.T. and Hoserville Ohio.
The Racer’s Chili Challenge features a chili cook-off as well as a beanbag tournament benefiting Hoserville Ohio Injured Driver’s Benevolent Fund. There will be a rock-paper-scissor contest for the kids, driver autograph sessions, a jalapeno eating contest, and much more. The KS Sales & Service “Hot Head Jalapeno Eating Contest” will pay $100 to the winner, $50 for 2nd, and $25 for third this year. The doors open at 1 PM to the public and costs just $5 at the door and includes a sample cup for you to taste as many chili entries as you wish. A $50 gas card will be given away to whomever in attendance drove the farthest distance to get to the event in Fremont. Last year a group from Western Pennsylvania took home the prize.
Any race teams looking to enter their car or truck into 8th Annual Northern Ohio Sprint Car Show (March 19-21) at the Tiffin Mall are encouraged to attend and sign up with event organizer Steve “Scoop” Hartzell throughout the day as he serves up his chili to the voters.
There is no entry fee for this contest and your team of two will get into the event for free. Teams can also enter the beanbag tournament as long as someone from the team is serving the chili at all times. To enter simply email the information below to fastondirt@yahoo.com or download the entry form at www.fastondirt.com. There will not be enough time to mail the entry form but it can be filled out, scanned, and e-mailed if you prefer that method!
