CHICO, CA – After two strong events thus far, the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series returns to action this weekend with round three of the popular three track race series for wingless “spec” sprint cars. Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico will play host to the campaign this Friday night in a much anticipated event that was previously postponed by Mother Nature.
The Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout Series consists of 12 events at three different California tracks. The series races at each facility four times between April and October for increased payouts and a $5,000 championship bonus sponsored by Hunt Magnetos that will be distributed among the top drivers in the series at its conclusion.
In addition to the championship fund for the touring campaign, the winner of each feature event in the shootout is guaranteed a healthy $1000 victory. Hunt Magnetos will also award various product incentives throughout the tour including a pair of $50 vouchers during each event.
On top of the boosted winnings, the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout will determine the starting grid for the popular Wingless Invitational at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico which opens the Gold Cup Race of Champions on Wednesday night, the top 30 drivers in the series as in concludes will be eligible for that high profile race.
This Friday night, the competitors of this exciting series will finally get their first visit of the season on that same banked quarter-mile on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds after previous rain outs that have delayed their debut in the North State.
The event is three two of the regional series for the division and they will share the spotlight with the 410 sprint cars, the ASCS Midgets and the Limited Late Models in the second event of the weekly championship series at Silver Dollar Speedway presented by Feather Falls Casino-Hoosier Racing Tires – Riebes Auto Parts and Pepsi Cola, The event will all be part of Mancamp Motorsports and Mootz Family Night at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
As the series returns to action this Friday night Terry Schank Jr. of Santa Rosa leads the point standings aboard the Joe Hunt Magnetos owned #1 wingless sprint car. Schank has had a pair of top fives in the two events that have taken place in the series. Timmy Sherman Jr. of Citrus Heights is in second place, trailing Schank by just single digits. Sitting third is Taylor Simas of Chico, three points out of the lead. Billy Wallace of Grass Valley is in fourth place, four points away from the top spot while Johnny Reeves of Elverta rounds out the top five.
Recent Marysville winner Ryan Bernal of Hollister is one spot out of the top five in sixth place. Rounding out the top ten is Chico’s own Jimmy Pettit, Justin Funkhouser of Paradise, Cody Myers of Browns Valley and Jerry Cisco of Rancho Cordova. So far a total of 36 drivers have competed and earned points in the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series. The campaign has produced two different winners, Schank and Marc Mackay of Shingle Springs.
On Friday night the gates to Silver Dollar Speedway will open at 6 p.m. with racing beginning at 7 p.m. Adult tickets will be $12.00, juniors and seniors $10.00 and Children will be $5.
