(Oxnard, CA 5-10-10) Ventura Raceway is back in action this Saturday night at 5:30pm with a full program of exciting dirt track racing at its Ventura county Fairgrounds facility.
This week we feature VRA 360 Sprints, Senior Dwarf Cars, VRA Sport Compacts, IMCA Modifieds and Go-Karts. The racing tonight promises to be another great night of exciting oval track racing for all in attendance.
VRA Sprint Cars are back this week after last week’s event that saw Troy Rutherford become the seventh different winner in seven events held so far in 2010. Point leader Rutherford maintains a 115-point lead over 2009 champion Kevin Kierce and a 270-point lead over Josh Ford. Former champion Greg Taylor is in fourth place and Rick Hendrix holds down fifth place. All the top drivers will be here this weekend to try to add their names to the winner’s list. Will it be eight different winners in eight events or will one of the seven previous winners make it their second win. Brent and Brian Camarillo, Steve Conrad, Don Gansen and several others have all been knocking on the door. Only time will tell if one of them can break through for their first win in 2010 and break the streak. With a format that includes heat races, semi mains and a 30 lap main event, racing will be exciting for all who witness the efforts of the outstanding VRA competitors.
VRA Senior Dwarf cars are back in action after a short break. Point leader and last race victor, Kent Benson leads the over 45 year old dwarf car drivers into tonight’s action. Benson leads Bill VanPraag by 40 points after 2 races. Can Benson make it two in a row or will Angel Figueroa, who won the first Senior race of 2010 and has won all four of the Pro division races so far be back to challenge him for another win.
IMCA Modifieds another good race last week. Danny Lauer took the win over a field of fourteen competitors. Damon Redman finished second and now trails 2009 Series Champion, Austin Rodarte by 11 points in the season long point race. These V 8 powered open wheel stock cars always provide the fans with slam bang exciting racing action from the green flag to the checkered flag.
In Sport Compact racing action, point leader Trevor Fitzgibbon is back to go for his third feature win in a row this weekend. All the top drivers in this four-cylinder rear wheel drive class will be trying to stop him from doing this. Fitzgibbon leads Cody Greiman by 80 points after four races in 2010.
Our final group racing this weekend is our VRA Go Kart division. Point leader Josh Ford leads the karters into action this week. He leads Richard Renken by 15 points and Robert DelGaudio by 25 points after three events this season. Who will be leading after this week will be determined by tight hard fought racing on their special infield track?
