ATTICA, OH (6-4-10)
The Kistler Racing Products F.A.S.T. Championship Series presented by SRP Pistons/ Engine Pro resumed action for Night #7 at Attica Raceway Park after a two week break in the schedule for sanctioned races at both speedways. The Monclova Missle struck again as Byron Reed showed why he is leading the chase for the Kistler Cup in 2010. The veteran driver from Monclova, OH reeled in his 3rd F.A.S.T. series victory of the season by overtaking Todd Heller and Mike Linder in a single pass coming out of turn 4 on lap #5 of the 30 lap event earning him the “Weld Wheels Cool Move of the Race”. Reed, who started 4th, never looked back as he rocketed into the lead and picked off lapped traffic as the pace was only slowed by a single caution on lap #6.
Heller and Linder battled from the front row at the drop of the initial green flag as the two diced it out for 5 laps before Reed dove under them for the lead. Heller continued to hold off Linder as the two raced hard for second place as Brandon Martin closed in on them from his 8th starting spot. Dean Jacobs, who started 13th, was flying up through the field passing cars on just about every lap earning him the “KSE Steering Hard Charger” award when he crossed the finish line in 3rd place behind Martin who made his way to 2nd before the checkered flag flew. Linder fell to 4th while Heller faded all the way back to 15th. Craig Mintz Rounded out the Top 5.
“It was a tough race. I can’t believe this track, it was great tonight. Everyone had to really be up on their game. I had to be aggressive in lapped traffic…it’s tough sometimes when you’re not sure where they are going,” said Reed beside his Reebar Diecasting, Schoenfeld Headers, ProShocks backed #5. “I think last year on both double-points nights were our worst nights of the year, so this will turn it around hopefully,” added Reed who was awarded double points toward the Attica track championship. No double points are awarded in FAST Series competition.
On Night #3 for the F.A.S.T. 305 Series it was DJ Foos who picked up his first win of the 2010 season by holding off veteran driver John Ivy for the majority of the 25 lap event. Foos jumped into the lead from his 4th starting spot at the drop of the green flag. John Ivy, Josh Muntz, Paige Polyak, Dustin Dinan and Nate Dussel would battle for position behind the race leader. Foos pulled away from Ivy as Ivy and Polyak battled for second with Dussel blasted to the front from the 11th starting spot into 4th. The action was slowed on lap 5 when the yellow flag flew, but Foos pulled away on the restart as Ivy and Polyak continued to race for second. Polyak was giving Ivy everything he could handle as he held her off in pursuit of the leader. Polyak scrubbed the front stretch barrier on lap 12 breaking the rear end and ending her night. Another yellow would slow the pace of the event, but in the final laps Ivy closed in on Foos as Dussel, Bobby Clark and Zack Kramer battled for third. Ivy pulled along side of Foos on several occasions, but another caution on lap 19 broke his stride.
Foos was able to pull away on the restart while Ivy had his hands full with Dussel and Clark knocking at his door. A final caution on lap 22 gave Ivy one last shot at the leader, but Foos was smooth on the bottom of the track and pulled away for the win. Ivy, Dussel, Kramer and Stuart Brubaker filled in the Top 5 spots.
Nate Dussell was the recipient of the $100 cash award in the “Kear’s Speedshop F.A.S.T. Cash Bonus” as Foos pulled a #3 ball out of the Kear’s Challenge box which gave the cash to the 3rd place finisher.
The FAST Championship Series will be back in action for Night #8 of 410 competition and Night #4 of 305 competition at “The Track That Action Built” (Fremont Speedway) on Saturday June 5th. Visit www.fremontohspeedway.com for details.
