(JULY 13, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Perris Auto Speedway will play host to the ASCS Canyon Region Sprint Cars for the second time in 2010 this Saturday night, July 17th. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00. Fans who attended the July 3rd race at The PAS can show their adult ticket stub from that night and get two adult tickets for the price of one this Saturday.
Saturday’s show will feature an on track autograph and photo session from 6:15 to 6:45. “We want to give the fans the chance to meet the drivers and renew old acquaintances with drivers who have raced with us in the past,” Perris promoter Don Kazarian said. “They will also get a chance to see cars that normally do not race in California. All fans who bought adult tickets to our July 3rd race can show that ticket stub at the ticket window and get two adult tickets for the price of one this Saturday. Last time ASCS was in town it was a fast moving show with great racing. We want all of our regular fans to experience it.”
Saturday’s race will be the first for the series since July 2nd and 3rd when three time Arizona State Midget champion R.J. Johnson of Phoenix and Buckeye, Arizona’s Charlie Davis Jr. won the main events at New Mexico’s Aztec Speedway. Both Johnson and Davis have visited victory circle at The PAS in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. Davis won in April of 2006 and Johnson scored a USAC/CRA victory at the Riverside County clay oval victory 11 months later in March of 2007.
The ASCS Sprint Car Series, which is in it’s 19th season of operation, made its first ever appearance in California at The PAS on May 22nd. In that first ever California event, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin fought off several determined challenges to pick up his first ever ASCS main event victory. The veteran Yuma racer held off a late race charge from Peoria, Arizona’s Josh Pelkey for the win. Johnson, Davis and Laveen, Arizona’s Stevie Sussex rounded out the top five.
Heading into Saturday’s race at The PAS, Davis, the defending ASCS Canyon Region champion, holds a 114-point advantage over Martin in the championship point standings. Johnson is ranked third just three points behind Martin with Manzanita legend Jeremy Sherman, of Surprise, Arizona, only 12-points behind Johnson. Pelkey is fifth, 24 points behind Sherman. The top ten in ASCS Canyon Region points and the 2010 main event winners are listed at the end of this release.
