8/25/10 – It was off to Wilmot Raceway this past Friday & Saturday for Bill Balog & the B Squared Motorsports team. Friday night’s event was going to be used as a test session for the IRA event on Saturday, but like so many other events throughout the season, rain moved in just as the drivers meeting was going on & the event was later canceled after another round of rain came through.
Bill would start off Saturday’s event by turning the 6th quickest time in qualifying out of the 36 cars present with a lap of 13.758 seconds. He took the green flag from position #5 in the 2nd of 4 heat races. After getting shuffled back to 6th place at the start, Bill quickly got to work on working his way towards a top 4 finish. By the end of the 10 lapper, he had worked his way all the way up to 2nd place which was good enough to earn a starting spot in the 30 lap feature.
By virtue of his 5th place qualifying effort & a 5 pill drawn for the feature inversion, Bill took the green flag for the main event from the 6th position. After getting a great start, Bill found himself in the 3rd position by the time he was entering turn 3, only to have a caution appear before the lap was complete. So it was a complete restart, & Bill once again had a great start and was in the top 4 by the end of the 1st lap. He continued to move forward & was up to 2nd before another yellow flag appeared. On the ensuing restart, he took the lead away & began to pull away from the field. A few more yellow flags would slow the race down, & Bill would have to endure a few challenges on the restarts, but he kept his cool & held on to the lead. Over the course of the last half the race, Bill would go onto open up a straightaway lead on 2nd place. By the time the Bill drove under the checkered flag on lap 30, he just about had a ½ track lead. This victory was Bill’s 11th career IRA win & 4th of the year. He has now claimed 4 out of the last 6 IRA features & has a string of 15 straight IRA top 5 feature finishes.
This weekend the B Squared Visual Solutions / XYZ Machining 17B will be in action at the Oshkosh Speedzone on Friday, August 27th & then the Wilmot Raceway on Saturday, August 28th.
