From Tony Veneziano
Jason Meyers and Joey Saldana have traded the lead three times in the last five races and figure to do it again over the final eight nights of racing in the 2010 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the rear wheel positions of the Outlaws cars and is the Official Tire Company of the Series.
Meyers leads the standings with 8,199 points and has won 10 races this season.
Saldana won his 13th race this season when he captured the win at Deer Creek last week. He is the only driver in the series with more than 300 laps in the lead of feature races and he led the standings for most of the summer.
But Meyers finished ninth and second in the two most recent events and used that consistency to slide ahead in the points chase.
Just to spice up an already exciting race for the title, 20-time WoO champ Steve Kinser is third in the standings with 8,151 points. Kinser finished on the podium in both of the last two races to stay within striking distance. For Kinser, who well understands how to win championships, eight races is a lot of time.
When Goodyear became the provider of the rear tires for the Outlaws teams prior to the beginning of the 2010 season, the sanctioning body requested a set of tire characteristics that would create more passing opportunities during the races. The goal was to put the racing back in the hands of the drivers and that has been done.
Three drivers still have a strong chance to win the 2010 championship and they know that even if they start a feature race deep in the field, it is still possible to win.
It looks like a classic showdown between Outlaws.
