TULSA, Okla. (September 27, 2010) – After an August rainout, the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region will make one more appearance at Lawton Speedway to spice up this Saturday night’s 21st Annual Lawton Speedway Winter Nationals.
Saturday’s event will mark the third ASCS Sooner stop of the season atop the ¼-mile Lawton Speedway red clay oval and 12th event of the year with a Thunderbird Speedway outing in Muskogee next on the slate on October 23.
Leading the way into Saturday’s action is Tulsa’s Sean McClelland, who captured his second series win of the year in the most recent ASCS Sooner event at South Coffeyville on September 11 after topping an ASCS Sooner vs. Lone Star Red River Challenge event at Lawton in July.
Carrying a 125-point lead into Saturday’s event in pursuit of a second ASCS Sooner championship, four of McClelland’s dozen career Sooner triumphs have taken place at Lawton Speedway.
While McClelland holds a healthy lead in the title chase, 2009 series champion Joe Wood, Jr., of Oklahoma City is just nine markers ahead of Sapulpa’s Kenneth Walker in the battle for second, with Oklahoma City’s Andy Shouse and Broken Arrow’s Donnie Ray Crawford rounding out the current top five in points.
Among others expected for Saturday night’s ASCS Sooner tilt are two-time ASCS Sooner champion Brian McClelland, Guthrie’s Michelle Decker, Lawton’s Michael Brown and Mustang’s Robert Sellers, who topped the June 5 ASCS Sooner card at Lawton Speedway.
Saturday’s action at Lawton Speedway fires off at 8:00 p.m.
Lawton Speedway is located in Lawton, OK, off I-44 Exit 36, then 2.5 miles west on Lee Boulevard, then 1.4 miles south on Sheridan Road. For more information, contact the track at 580-355-6417.
The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is slated for 14 nights of racing action at eight different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri in 2010.
