TULSA, Okla. (September 27, 2010) โ The American Sprint Car Series Southwest Region wraps up three consecutive weekends of winged Sprint Car racing action in Arizona with Saturday nightโs return to Tucsonโs USA Raceway.
Following this past weekendโs lone stop of the year at Show Lowโs Thunder Raceway, this coming weekendโs card marks the eleventh night of ASCS Southwest competition thus far in 2010.
While Albuquerqueโs Johnny Herrera tops the series win charts after collecting his third win of the year at Show Low on Saturday night, Las Cruces shoe Rick Ziehl holds a 109 point advantage in his quest for a third consecutive ASCS Southwest championship.
Phoenix native and current Knoxville, IA, resident Calvin Landis currently holds down second in points, just 27 points ahead of Peoriaโs John Gaston with 15-year-old Joshua Hodges of Tijeras, NM, and Glendaleโs Joshua Williams rounding out the current top five in points.
The balance of the current top ten includes Mesaโs Steve Stone, Maranaโs Koty McGullam, Mesaโs J.T. Imperial, Scottsdaleโs Lance Norick and Mesaโs Mike Rux, Jr.
Also joining in on Saturdayโs action in a winged car for the first time in 2010 is current ASCS Canyon Region wingless Sprint Car points leader Charles Davis, Jr., of Buckeye, AZ.
Saturday’s ASCS Southwest Region action at USA Raceway is slated to go green at 6:45 p.m.
The 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268, then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales. For more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.
The ASCS Southwest Region is currently slated for 17 overall nights of competition in 2010, including 13 nights in Arizona and a pair of New Mexico weekend doubles.
In its 19th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing, the American Sprint Car Series brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
