VANCOUVER, Wash. – Saturday’s season finale for the IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore. was cancelled this morning due to unceasing rainfall, thus ending the NWWT’s second season of competition. Just as the season started, the NWWT’s season ended with two rainouts, making it four total in a season where the weather did not treat the tour well.
Theo McCarty of Hillsboro, Ore. has clinched his first IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour championship in the traditional non-wing 360 sprint cars. McCarty won no main events, but showed consistency throughout the season, finishing in the Top 10 in every race except one this year and also picked up a second place finish at Willamette Speedway on July 30th. Mike Romig of Vancouver, Wash. finished second in the point standings, 36 points back of Romig.
With a single win, Doug Kammerzell of Arlington, Wash. is the championship of the NWWT’s midget car division, being the second Washington driver to win the title in as many seasons. Kammerzell’s lone victory came on July 30th at Willamette Speedway. Beaverton, Ore.’s Mitch Hoffses, who picked up a win at Sunset Speedway Park on June 19th, finished second in the point standings.
The season ending banquet for the IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour is scheduled for November 6th. Details will be released in the coming days.
