The annual Pombo/Sargent Classic is up next for the Golden State King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series this Saturday May 14 at the Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway. The Pombo/Sargent Classic has been going on for over 20 years and it honors California racing icons Al Pombo and Marshall Sargent.
This Saturday’s event will be the second and final stop of the season in Tulare for KWS.
On Saturday May 14 the front grandstand gate will open at 5pm with racing starting a half hour earlier than usual at 6:30pm.
The Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare, California. From the junction of SR 99 and SR 137, go west on SR 137. At South K go south one-half mile to the Fairgrounds.
Advance tickets are on sale and be acquired by contacting the track ticket office at (559) 688-0909. Reserved grandstand seats cost $20 with general admission bleacher tickets $17. Pit pass prices will be $37 for members and $45 for non members.
About the track:
Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway is a one-third mile clay oval with the all-time track record being 12.651, which was set by Tim Kaeding on March 5, 2010.
Last year at the Pombo/Sargent Classic:
San Jose’s Tim Kaeding took advantage of a final lap 360-degree spin by leader Tommy Tarlton to get by and grab the Pombo/Sargent Classic win last season. Tarlton was able to regroup and cross the line in second with Elk Grove’s Kyle Larson, Campbell’s Bud Kaeding and Chico’s Jonathan Allard rounding out the top-five.
