From the World of Outlaws
CONCORD, N.C. — (May 23rd, 2011) — The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series is heading into a Memorial Day Weekend thriller with visits to the Dirt Track at Charlotte on Friday, May 27, and a return trip to I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., on Monday, May 30, to make up an event that was postponed on May 21.
In addition, the event on Friday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte will be covered by SPEED beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern.
The last time the Outlaws raced at the four-tenths mile track was last year’s World Finals, when Jason Meyers clinched his first championship by sweeping the event.
Charlotte won’t be the only shot Meyers has at a three-peat during the holiday weekend. The Clovis, Calif., native also has won at I-96 Speedway the past two years. However, Meyers is winless so far in 2011. Can a win at The Dirt Track at Charlotte or I-96 Speedway be the catalyst to kick-start Meyers’ 2011 title hopes? Will 20-time champion Steve Kinser find his way back to victory lane after winning four of the first seven races of 2011? Or will someone else find the checkers as the Outlaws begin to enter the crucial summer stretch.
WHEN
Friday, May 27, at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. Pit gates open at 1:00 p.m., grandstand gates at 4 p.m. time trials at 6:45 and racing kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
Monday, May 30, at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich. Pit gates open at 1 p.m., grandstand gates open at 3 p.m. Qualifying will be at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m.
