SARVER, Pa. – July 19, 2011 – One of the most emotional Kings Royal weekends in Eldora Speedway history featuring a thriller between Tim Shaffer and Jason Meyers on Friday coupled with Tyler Walker’s stunning $50,000 victory Saturday has set the tone for the Month of Money. Intensity will be at an all-time high Tuesday night when the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series invades Lernerville Speedway for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30s.

MORGAN CUP: Originally scheduled for the World of Outlaws event at Williams Grove in May, rain pushed the inaugural Morgan Cup Challenge to this Friday night (July 22) following the A-main. The top five World of Outlaws touring drivers and the top five Pennsylvania Posse competitors from last fall’s National Open will square off in a 12-lap showdown to finally determine who the best is in a Sprint Car. In addition to the purse for the event, a one-of-kind Sterling silver cup imported from Italy will be awarded to the winning side, where it’ll be displayed until next year’s race.

The competitors include 2010 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Champion Jason Meyers on the front row with Jason Sides, Paul McMahan, Donny Schatz and Kraig Kinser lined up behind him. Team Posse sports an impressive lineup as well with Lance Dewease leading the charge followed by Stevie Smith, Brian Montieth, Daryn Pittman and Greg Hodnett. Drivers secured their starting positions based on how they finished the in last fall’s National Open.

SWEET FILLING IN FOR SALDANA: Due to the unfortunate injuries sustained by Kasey Kahne Racing’s Joey Saldana in a crash during the Kings Royal A-main on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway, it was announced via Twitter on Monday that Brad Sweet will drive #9 Red Bull Maxim while Saldana recovers. Sweet had been driving the #49 Ollie’s Bargain Outlets Maxim in several World of Outlaws events this season. … Saldana, who is third in the World of Outlaws championship standings, was injured in a multi-car crash early in the Kings Royal on Saturday night. He sustained a broken right arm, broken ribs and collapsed lung. The injuries required surgery to add two steel plates along with 25 screws to Saldana’s arm.

TIGHT POINTS BATTLE: Through 31 races this season, the series points battle continues to be tight, with defending champion Jason Meyers, four-time champion Donny Schatz and Joey Saldana all swapping the points lead since the Boot Hill Showdown at Dodge City in early July. Quietly lurking in fourth is 20-time champion Steve Kinser, whose five victories ties him with Craig Dollansky for the most on the series heading into the Silver Cup. Dollansky and Jason Sides are also tied for fifth in points, with Dollansky’s five wins giving him a slight edge over Sides in the tiebreaker.
