FORLER FINISHES A CLOSE SECOND AT GRAYS HARBOR

Inside Line Promotions
– ELMA, Wash. (Aug. 17) – Logan Forler counted the ways he could have won.

There was a pass for the lead, then a yellow to revert the running order. Forler’s bleeder on his right rear tire stuck on the last restart, which made him way too tight entering turn one with a handful of laps remaining. Oh, and the winner’s engine blew up on the lap after the checkered flag.

But in the end, the 18-year-old from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., finished second last Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.

“I think I should have won that race because of that lapped car,” Forler said. “We had already passed the start-finish line and I was going into turn three the next lap when they threw the yellow.”

Forler, who started fourth, was in second place by the second lap. He then chased down leader Colton Heath and the duo pulled away from the field.

“I thought me and him were in a whole different world,” Forler said. “We were just the same exact speed. He would get a good jump on the restarts and I would just follow him in circles.

“All I needed was lapped traffic. I finally got it and then the yellow came.”

Midway through the feature, Heath came up on a slowing car off turn four and the two slowed on the frontstretch. Forler rocketed by both before the start-finish line and pulled away before the yellow flag was waved after the lapped car rolled to a stop in turn one.

Officials determined that a lap hadn’t been completed and Heath was placed back in the lead. He again took off and Forler chased him on the top groove. However, with about eight laps remaining, Heath’s car began to smoke and Forler was pulling tearoffs every lap because of the oil.

Forler had one last opportunity as the field bunched up for a late restart. However, the bleeder in his right rear tire stuck.

“I kind of got messed up on that last restart,” he said. “I was already too tight and that bleeder stuck, and then I was really too tight.”

Forler finished a narrow second behind Heath’s smoking car.

It was Forler’s eighth top-five finish of the season.

He is taking this weekend off before returning to Grays Harbor Raceway for an ASCS Northwest Region doubleheader on Aug. 26-27.
