– EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 12) – Danny Lasoski is never satisfied with second place and Sunday was not an exception.
Driving for Mark Burch Motorsports for the first time this season, Lasoski led the first 21 laps before being passed by fellow sprint car star Jason Johnson with less than four laps remaining at the $5,000-to-win Nebraska Cup at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb.
“He got me,” Lasoski said. “Sometimes it’s better to be running second. I’m not even sure where he passed me. I think it was in turns three and four.”
Lasoski stayed within striking distance the remaining handful of laps and ultimately finished a car length from victory in the ASCS Midwest Region event. It was his 30th top-five finish in 46 features this season.
The night started well for the veteran from Dover, Mo., who charged from sixth to third in his heat race. That earned him one of the eight positions in the redraw, which determined the first four rows of the feature.
“The race track was very challenging,” he said. “We had some good race cars in our heat. You’ve got to get passing points in the ASCS format and we passed enough cars to get into the redraw.
“Luckily, we drew the No. 1.”
Lasoski started on the pole of the 25-lap main event and led every circuit before Johnson was able to make a pass in the closing laps.
“I really want to thank Mark Burch for giving me the opportunity to drive his race car,” Lasoski said. “I just wish we would have been able to lead those last four laps and win the race.”
He will compete for Burch again this weekend at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., on Friday and Saturday with the ASCS Midwest Region.
