The USAC Dirt Midget Association closed out its inaugural season with a pair of 15 lap non-points races at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday. After the first segment, the field was inverted and after the second segment, an overall winner was calculated based on finishes in both segments.
New England Auto Racing Hall of Famer Ray Miller of East Granby, CT won the first segment with a wire-to-wire run. The 69 year old Miller held off a determined challenge from former Sprint Car pilot Scott Holcomb, who finished second. Miller’s teammate Scott Viets, also of East Granby, came home third. “The Fairlee Flier,” Kevin Chaffee of Fairlee Vermont, raced his way from ninth to finish fourth and Tim Gallant of Wales, MA was fifth.
“Flatfoot Joe” Krawiec of Bristol, CT took the second segment, grabbing the lead from Richard Petty Motorsports crewmember and former Sprint Car driver Kevin White on lap two. Tony Montesi of Roxbury, CT finished second and Holcomb raced his way from 12th to finish third. Kevin Chaffee reprised his fourth place finish in segment one and Scott Viets was fifth.
With a second place and a third place, Scott Holcomb was calculated as the overall winner, followed by Joe Krawiec, Kevin Chaffee, Scott Viets and Ray Miller.
