This Saturday’s AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint race at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway will be somewhat different from others held at the half-mile dirt oval this season, with a “break” between preliminaries and the semi and feature events.
Qualifications and heat races will be conducted during daylight, concluding at about 3 pm. A four-hour break will then give race fans time to visit the Southern California Fair midway and vendors before returning to their seats for the 7 pm scheduled semi and the ensuing feature event.
Series point leader Mike Spencer has scored three of his six 2011 feature wins at the PAS, while points runner-up Matt Mitchell has won there twice. Nic Faas won the last race there September 24 and he ranks third in the latest standings.
Spencer is 30 points ahead of Mitchell and 39 ahead of Faas in his bid for an unprecedented fourth consecutive series championship.
