Selinsgrove< PA — (July 28, 2012) — Colby Womer of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Pat Cannon of Etters each took a win in one of the two 25-lap 358 sprint car features Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway on a smooth, “glass-top” racing surface.

Womer’s second career win, his first in more than two years at the track, came in the make-up feature from July 21 at the wheel of the Lester Stuck Building Supplies/Kerstetter Countertops No. 19. Womer became the division’s eighth different winner this season.

In the regularly scheduled race, point leader Cannon stormed to his fourth win of the season and the 36th of his career at the Snyder County oval driving the Highlands’ Tire & Service Center No. 3.

The 25-lap late model feature was won by Dave Zona of Montross. The win was Zona’s first career at the track, and he became the division’s seventh different feature winner.

Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove also won his first race of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature. The victory marked the 35th of Bachman’s career and made him the division’s sixth different winner.

Point leader Bob Bussey of Northumberland scored his sixth win of the season in the 12-lap roadrunner race.

Saturday’s program was Race-For-A-Cure / Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Night. Through a variety of activities coordinated by 17-year-old pro stock rookie driver Nathan Long of Selinsgrove and 16-year-old Krista Paige of Middleburg, more than $4,175.00 was raised at the track and will be presented to the JDRF.

Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 14th annual Foss Jewelers Late Model Open plus 358 sprint cars and pro stocks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. The 30-lap Open will pay $5,000 to win out of an $18,000 purse. Time trials, heat races, and a B-main will be the qualifying format.

The speedway will swing back into action at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, with the Mach 1 Chassis Mid-Atlantic Championship Series for 358-360 sprint cars plus the first-ever appearance by the PASS 305 sprint cars. The 25-lap main event for the 358-360 sprint cars will pay $2,500 to win out of a $15,000 purse.

On the initial start of the make-up sprint car feature, polesitter Brock Zearfoss powered into the lead when second-place starter Scott Wilson spun in turn two. For the restart, original fourth-place starter Colby Womer found himself starting on the front row with Zearfoss and took the lead at the drop of the race’s second green flag.

Womer led third-place starter Phil Walter and Zearfoss in the first couple of laps. On the fifth lap, 10th-place starter Pat Cannon passed seventh-place starter Cody Keller and sixth-place starter Eric Tomecek for the fourth position.

At the midway point of the race, the leaders began to encounter slower traffic, enabling Walter and Cannon to close in on Womer. On a lap 13 restart, Walter and Cannon raced wheel-to-wheel for the runner-up position, with Cannon eventually moving past Walter.

On the 19th lap, Cannon attempted a pass by Womer to no avail. In the final laps of the race, Womer maintained the lead and posted a mere .56 of a second margin of victory over Cannon, Walter, 19th-place starter Mark Smith, and ninth-place starter Jason Shultz.

In the regularly scheduled sprint car feature, polesitter Joel VanBuskirk led the first lap of the race. On a lap two restart, third-place starter Ryan Kissinger made a pass by VanBuskirk in turns one and two for the lead.

On the fourth lap, ninth-place starter Derek Locke showed some speed and passed seventh-place starter Cody Keller for the third position. Then, on a lap five restart, Locke drove by VanBuskirk for second and began to close in on Kissinger.

On the ninth circuit, Locke took the lead with an inside pass by Kissinger in turn two. A lap later, 11th-place starter Pat Cannon rocketed into the runner-up position. At the halfway point, Cannon made the winning pass by Locke using the outside lane through turns three and four.

Late in the race, eighth-place starter Mark Smith made a charge into the third position. In the final laps, Cannon pulled away and posted a 3.7-second margin of victory over Locke, M. Smith, John Smith, and Keller.

In the late model feature, third-place starter Dave Zona darted into the early lead and was followed closely by fifth-place starter Matt Cochran. On the second circuit, eighth-place starter Dylan Yoder passed Cochran for second and set his sites on Zona.

The caution flag unfurled on lap three when Bryan Bernheisel and Steve Campbell crashed in turn three. The wreck also sidelined Kenny Trevitz and Tony Adams with damage to their race cars.

When the race resumed, Zona continued to set the pass in front of D. Yoder. On the 11th circuit, seventh-place starter Jim Yoder drove by Cochran for the third position. On a lap 18 restart, D. Yoder attempted a pass by Zona in turns one and two to no avail.

In the final laps of the race, Zona pulled away from the field while an intense battle for second unfolded between the father-and-son Yoders. At the checkered flag, Zona was victorious by 2.4 seconds over J. Yoder, D. Yoder, J. Bernheisel, and Jeff Rine.

Kyle Bachman, who started fourth, stormed into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature and wired the field for the victory. During the first four laps of the race, Bachman was chased by polesitter Mike Kiehl. On the fifth circuit, fifth-place starter and five-time winner Hayes Mattern took over the runner-up position.

On each of the subsequent restarts, however, Bachman was able to stretch his lead and posted a convincing 3.32-second margin of victory over Mattern, second-place starter Shaun Miller, Kiehl, and seventh-place starter AJ Hoffman.

Fourth-place starter Brian Johnson led the first three laps of the roadrunner feature until his car drifted high in turn two and allowed second-place starter Bruce Wyland Jr. to take command of the field. At the same time, eighth-place starter Keith Bissinger pulled off the track when his car developed mechanical problems while racing third.

Seventh-place starter Bob Bussey advanced to second and made the winning pass by Wyland using the inside lane entering turn three on lap seven. Once in front of the pack, Bussey stretched his lead and posted a 1.9-second margin of victory over Wyland, Dustin Snook, Curtis Lawton, and John Schoch.
