PETERSEN MEDIA
Spending the weekend at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Wheatland, MO for the Hockett-McMillan Memorial, Tony Bruce, Jr had a strong weekend as he scored a second place finish on Friday night, and followed it up with a sixth place effort on Saturday night.
With 51 cars checked into the pit area, Bruce started his weekend off by charging his Hinchman/Pro Auto/Eagle Motorsports entry to a second place heat race finish propelling him into the nights redraw.
Pulling the three, TBJ would line his Oil Medics/Smiley’s/SWE backed entry up in the second row for the 25-lap feature on what was a rough track following earlier rains.
Running in the third spot, Bruce worked the top-shelf of the speedway as he chased down second running, Brian Brown, as they began a fieirce duel on the 10th circuit.
With Bruce up top, and Brown down low, the fans would be treated as they continued to battle for six laps, with TBJ finally clearing Brown with nine laps to go, as he set his sights on Brady Bacon.
Though he was cutting into Bacon’s lead, Bruce would run out of time in the final laps, and settled for the second spot, locking himself into the Saturday night feature event.
Waiting through the heats, TBJ would ultimately pull the vaunted six pill in the redraw, putting him in the third row for the feature event, on a track that was not primed for much passing in the feature event.
With rubber being laid down in the early stages, TBJ fell into the sixth spot and hit his marks as he clicked off laps.
At the stripe, TBJ would close out a very strong weekend with a sixth place finish.
“To come out of a weekend with such a stout field of cars with a second and sixth is a pretty good accomplishment for us,” he said. “We’ve been a little inconsistent as of late, but these Eagle cars are working, and hopefully this gets us headed in the right direction as some big races approach.”
Bruce would like to thank all of his sponsors, Hinchman Racewear, Pro Auto, Eagle Motorsports, The Oil Medics, Smileys, SWE, Maxwell Industries, FK Rod Ends, Butlerbuilt, Factory Kahne Shocks, Randy’s Racing Filters, DriversWebsites.com, Racinboys.com, Wilwood, Zemco Headers, Hoosier Tires, Gaerte Engines, Pro Powder Coating, Fuel Safe, Bell, Weld Wheels, and ISC Racer’s Tape for their support through the 2012 season.
