Online nominations are beginning to roll in for the Speedweek component of the 2012-13 ENZED World Series Sprintcars Championship, thanks in large part to an additional $7,500 mini-series prize pool.
The additional cash bonus will reward drivers who complete the full Speedweek mini-series, with $5,000 going to the Speedweek champion plus $1,500 and $1,000 to the next two place getters respectively.
“Speedway Australia has made some business decisions with WSS over the past 18 months which means we are in a position to now start providing more for not only the fans, and the tracks but also the competitors,” reported WSS Race Director Shane Collins.
“Speedweek is a tough slog for everyone, so the cash bonus will be a fantastic reward for the teams that are consistently strong over the 5 nights of racing.”
“This is the first of some more exciting announcements that will be coming along soon”
Among the early nominations is Californian Kyle Hirst, who will step into the cockpit of Josh and Isaac Ruhs’ High Race 99 from Broken Hill.
Hirst will be visiting Australia off the back of a highly successful US summer in which he competed 63 times, tallying 10 wins, 20 podium finishes, 40 top-fives and 46 top-tens. During that time, Hirst displayed prodigious talent in both 410 and 360 Sprintcars on long, intermediate and short tracks, a good indicator that the 23 year-old’s speed and success should translate well to Australian turf.
Standing in Hirst’s way will be local superstar Steven Lines, who carries winning form into World Series Sprintcars and sits a mere 55 points behind the series leader in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series, despite missing one of the first five rounds.
A large contingent of local competitors is also expected to join the Speedweek festivities when the series kicks off on Boxing Day at Speedway City.
Online nominations for all rounds are now open. To ensure teams receive their free pit gate entry passes, competitors should ensure they nominate more than 7 days in advance of the event.
Stay tuned to the WorldSeriesSprintcars.com.au in the coming days as more nominated drivers and series information is announced.
