With the WSS taking the weekend off due to the Australian Title, Kyle Hirst and his Ruhs Brothers Racing team were in action twice this past week, their highlight came during the 360 Cup on Saturday night.
Heading back to where he kicked off his Australian season, Hirst again showed speed at Speedway City as he moved forward in both of his heat races, and scored second and fourth place finishes.
Starting sixth in the feature, Hirst got off to a very slow start, as his car was very free on the slick track conditions.
“They did some track prep before the feature, and we figured it would bring some moisture back, and we were very wrong,” he said.
Battling an ill handling car, Hirst held on to the fifth spot during the duration of the race.
Playing with his wing to tighten the USA99 up, Hirst was able to make a late charge during the feature, and score a third place finish.
“As the race wore on we got a little better, playing with the wing, and searching the track, we ended up making a little run at the end and scored a third place finish, which is cool for these guys being relatively close to home for them.”
The week wasn’t great for Hirst however, as he was in action on Tuesday night in Brisbane for the Capabala Wreckers Cup.
Starting 12th in the feature, Hirst hounded fellow American, Donnie Schatz, for the early part of the race.
As Schatz came into contact with the back stretch wall, Hirst checked up a bit, and was hit from the back and slid into a spinning Schatz, and ending his night.
“Tuesday was bizzare,” he said. “Schatz clipped the wall and started to spin, and as I checked up to avoid him, I got plowed right into him, and it took us out of the night.”
