Selinsgrove, PA — (January 29, 2013) — Selinsgrove Speedway and Raceway Park officials released the 2013 schedule of events today featuring 34 race dates at both the Snyder County half-mile and one-fifth mile tracks this year.
Throughout the speedway’s 68th year, fans will have the opportunity to take in a variety of motorsports racing programs, including regional and national touring open wheel and stock car events.
The weekly Saturday night fanfare will consist of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners, with special appearances by the 410 sprint cars, 360 sprint cars, super sportsman, modifieds, and World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
The first race of the season, marking the track’s 51st consecutive season opener, will feature the 410 sprint cars at 2pm Sunday, March 10. The 410 sprint cars will also compete at Selinsgrove in the Ray Tilley Classic May 26, Jan Opperman Memorial PA Speedweek Finale July 7, Jim Nace Memorial 31st Annual National Open Sept. 14, and a Twin 20’s program Oct. 6.
Track officials announced this year’s National Open for 410 sprint cars will be a single 44-lap main event paying $12,000 to win.
Following the sprint car opener, the Sixth Annual Race of Champions-sanctioned Icebreaker Weekend for 358 modifieds and big block modifieds will unfold Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16. Saturday’s Alexander Family Dealerships Icebreaker 40 for big block modifieds will pay $5,000 to win.
A&A Auto Stores announced its return as the title sponsor of the 358 sprint car division for 2013. This year will mark the 13th consecutive season the 358 sprint cars will be the track’s weekly headline open wheel division with 21 events. In addition, the 358 sprint cars will join the 360 sprint cars in challenge events sanctioned by the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) April 6 and the United Racing Company (URC) May 11.
The 13th Annual Mach 1 Chassis National Open for 358-360 sprint cars will be co-sanctioned by ESS and URC Sept. 28. For the fourth year in a row, the race will pay $8,000 to win.
ESS will hold a standalone show at the track May 18 and URC will present a full points race of its own Aug. 10.
Other special events for the 358 sprint cars this season include the Joe Whitcomb Memorial June 15 and the Firecracker 30 June 29.
The Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center late models dot the schedule 27 times in 2013, including three championship races plus the $5,000-to-win Fall Classic Oct. 12. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will sanction the 15th annual Late Model National Open in a two-day format Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1. The 50-lap Open finale Sunday night will pay $10,000 to win.
The pro stocks will return 24 times this year. The division, entering its 16th season at the track, will be featured in the $1,000-to-win Pro Stock 20 May 4 and $500-to-win Summer Championships July 6 and Aug. 24.
In 2013, the roadrunners will be on the racing card for 23 shows. The entry level stock car division will take the spotlight in the Roadrunner 20 June 1.
This season will mark the return of the popular Camera & Autograph Nights April 13 and July 6. Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center will sponsor the fourth annual Driver & Fan Appreciation Night July 20.
The super sportsman will join the 410 sprint cars on May 26 and July 7 for open wheel doubleheaders.
For the 13th season, Selinsgrove Raceway Park, the one-fifth mile track located inside of Selinsgrove Speedway’s half-mile oval, will present weekly Friday night go kart and micro sprint car racing sponsored by Selinsgrove Ford.
An open practice session for go karts and micro sprint cars will be held at 12pm Sunday, March 17. The go kart season opener is slated for 7pm Friday, March 22. The micro sprint cars will make their season debut at 7pm Friday, March 29.
The Pennsylvania Elite Dirt Karters Association will sanction a two-day event the weekend of June 22-23. The micro sprint cars will be featured in the 7th Annual All Star Championship Race in Memory of Roger Spencer Sept. 22.
The annual Selinsgrove Speedway Motorsports Show at the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf will run Sunday, March 3 through Friday, March 8. Race teams interested in placing their cars in the show should contact Steve Inch at publicrelations@
Season reserved seat tickets will be on sale at the mall Sunday 1-4pm; Monday-Thursday 6:30-9pm; and Friday 6-7:30pm. The season kickoff ceremony will be held 7:30pm Friday at Center Court.
