Barberville, FL — (February 18th, 2013) — After ‘Mother Nature’ finally decided to vacate the Florida peninsula, and allow the sun to establish itself in it’s familiar position, sprint car racing resumed at it’s renown February home near Daytona Beach, Florida. After two consecutive UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions’ cancellations at Volusia Speedway Park near Barberville, Florida on Wednesday and Thursday, February 13th and 14th; Danny Holtgraver, and entire B&R Racing ‘45’ program, rolled back into Barberville- locked and loaded- for three consecutive nights worth of World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series competition. The 2013 World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series season opener consisted of three nights of action at the ultra-fast, Volusia Speedway Park half-mile, on Friday through Sunday, February 15th – 17th; featuring ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ as well as many other popular and successful ‘410’ teams. The Canton Erectors/Alternative Power Sources/DKW Transport/Berlin Natural Bakery/J&J Chassis/Kistler Engines/VRP Shocks ‘45’ team qualified for two out of three World of Outlaws A-main events this past weekend; with their best result equaling a 23rd place finish on Saturday, February 16th. The B&R Racing team was amongst nearly forty of the best, and most successful, sprint car teams on the planet while at Volusia; allowing Holtgraver to be more than satisfied with his Florida venture with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt.’
“We have learned a lot while being in Florida so far” explained Holtgraver, “We have had our ups and downs so far, obviously, but as a brand new team, I feel we are right on track and learning a lot about each other and our program…there is a lot of great competition down here and we were right up there with them on a few occasions…Brian Kemenah does a great job with this ‘45’ team and I can’t thank everyone involved enough…Bryan Grove and Rob Hunter have given me a great opportunity…now it’s my job to get the ball rolling!”
The B&R Racing ‘45’ team, lead by veteran crew chief, Brian Kemenah, shined the brightest on Saturday evening, February 16th; when Holtgraver qualified third fastest out of the thirty-nine World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series entrees. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, and former Lernerville Speedway track champion, went on to finish fourth in his respective heat race; thus qualifying the multi-time All Star winner for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series’ Dash. Holtgraver’s dash result allowed the Canton Erectors/Berlin Natural Bakery ‘45’ J&J to start on the outside of row five for the 30 lap, $10,000-to-win, World of Outlaws A-main. The full-time All Star Circuit of Champions traveler in 2013 would go on to score a 23rd place finish.
“It was a real solid night for us” said Holtgraver about Saturday’s effort, “We qualified well and earned a spot in the dash…that really helped us establish ourselves as a team… we have a lot of potential, and our qualifying effort that night proved that we are a team that can be fast and very competitive…unfortunately, we missed the set-up completely in the A-main, but still managed to stay in one piece…it was really fun night for us.”
Holtgraver will now head south to Tampa, Florida for three nights of ‘360’ sprint car competition at the East Bay Raceway Park; beginning Thursday, February 21st, and ending Saturday, February 23rd. The three-night ‘360’ program will be highlighted with a $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday, February 23rd. Holtgraver has been in competition at East Bay Raceway Park in the past, and looks forward to returning to the Tampa area oval for the first time since 2009.
“I have been to East Bay Raceway Park before and had some success there before getting up close and personal with the wall” laughed Holtgraver, “Hopefully we can turn things around down there and park this ‘45’ in victory lane!”
The ‘360’ sprint car weekend this upcoming Thursday through Saturday will help close-out this year’s ‘Winternationals’ at East Bay Raceway Park; as well as help close-out Danny Holtgraver’s trip to ‘The Sunshine State’ for 2013.
