The third of five weekends in the early season West Coast swing for Craig Dollansky and the rest of the STP World of Outlaws turned to Merced Speedway on Friday. Set to close out the month of March, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ returned to Merced, California for his third appearance where he recorded a sixth place finish last season.
With only one event on the weekend, 31 drivers signed into the tight 1/3-mile pit area. As the night got underway with qualifying, Dollansky was a touch off in time trials resulting in the 21st fastest lap at 11.365 seconds. Lining up inside row four for heat race competition, the MobileStar Maxim ran 5th in the 10-lap event to transfer into the A-Main.
Mired deep in the pack inside row eleven for the start of the main event, Dollansky moved up a bit to nineteenth before the first caution with nine laps complete. Another yellow four circuits later saw the Aggressive Hydraulics backed sprinter move up two more positions and maintain the same spot before a red flag just before the halfway point on lap 16. As the feature continued, Dollansky slipped back a few spots in the next handful of laps and struggled to rebound as the race stayed green until the checkers with the #7 scored in 18th.
Next weekend the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team travels to Antioch Speedway on Friday, April 5th, before a stop at Calistoga Speedway the following night.
