Taking part in a pair of USAC/CRA events at the Cocopah Speedway in Yuma, AZ, Matt Mitchell score a pair of top-ten finishes in his Matt Mitchell Racing No.37.

“We had an okay weekend,” he said. “We had our struggles on Friday night, and Saturday night rubber made it tough to do much in.”

With 18 cars on hand Friday night, Mitchell timed his A.R.T./MPD Racing/Parker Performance Engines machine in 10th fastest.

With the engine a bit off during qualifications, Mitchell and his team went to work on that, and weren’t able to do much with their car prior to the heat, and they struggled to a seventh place heat finish.

With the engine still off, work continued prior to the feature event, and car set up was secondary.

Getting it better for the feature event, Mitchell was a touch too free on the extremely slick track, though he did hold on to a tenth place finish.

Saturday night, the series returned to the track, and Mitchell got his night started off by timing his Caliagua/Bell Helmets/Hedman Hedders machine in eighth fastest.

With the track extremely slick and abrasive, Mitchell score a sixth place heat finish, and lined up eighth in the feature event.

By the time the feature rolled around, the track had begun taking rubber, and it turned into nearly a single file event.

Getting seventh on the start, Mitchell found the rubber and stayed put, capping his weekend off with a second top-10 finish.

“We are still lacking in time trials on a nightly basis, and we have to figure out how to fix it because it hurts us in the long run,” he said. “We raced okay all weekend, but Saturday it was extremely tough to gain any ground.”

Matt Mitchell Racing would like to thank, A.R.T. Enterprises, MPD Racing, Parker Performance Engines, Caliagua, Bell Helmets, and Hedman Hedders for their support in 2013.
