TULSA, Okla. (April 23, 2013) – Enter a new combination into the mix for Saturday night’s coveted Gibson Electric Guitar trophy at Riverside International Speedway’s Rock ‘N Roll 50, as California’s Shane Golobic sets his sights on the top prize.
Hailing from Fremont, CA, the 21-year-old Golobic will join forces with veteran car owner Bobby Sparks of Olive Branch, MS. Saturday’s winged 360-ci Sprint Car ASCS National event at the fabled Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, AR, marks Sparks return to action for the first time in over a year.
“I’ve never even met Shane (Golobic), but I’ve heard a lot of good things about him so I’m really looking forward to it,” Sparks commented.
With a new Jerry Russell chassis at the ready equipped with Weld Wheels and Pro Shocks with PBM Performance parts, Saturday’s outing at “The Ditch” will be the first of approximately 20-25 selected events this year for the Sparks No. 91, “If everything stays as it is right now,” Sparks explains with the possibility of expanding the schedule further.
While several drivers may take the seat of the Sparks machine over the course of the year dependent upon various schedules, Golobic will be the first to take aim at victory lane. And, fresh off his first World of Outlaws win, it will be Golobic’s first visit to Riverside International Speedway.
“I hear it’s a pretty tight little place, it sounds like something pretty similar to what I’m used to in California,” Golobic explained. “Bobby has good stuff and I think it’ll be my kind of race track, I can’t wait for Saturday.”
Golobic opened the 2013 season with a seventh place run amongst a field of 268 entries at Tulsa’s Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in January and then picked off his first career World of Outlaws victory earlier this month at Antioch Speedway in California on April 5th.
Adding that Gibson guitar to the trophy case would be another big moment in an already big year for Golobic.
“That’s a neat trophy, that’s what we’re going to try to get on Saturday,” Golobic commented.
Saturday’s Rock ‘N Roll 50 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, AR, goes green at 7:30 p.m. Golobic and Sparks look to add their name to the list of previous Rock ‘N Roll 50 winners that includes Tim Crawley in 2009 and 2010 and then Seth Bergman in 2012.
