May 1, 2013 – A two-race weekend quickly turned into one night for the Keneric Racing #29 team last weekend. Originally, a two-night weekend for the World of Outlaws turned into a Friday only affair, when flooding in Pevely, Missouri postponed that event. Then Friday’s show at the Salina (OK) High Banks was rained out and rescheduled for Saturday, scratching the team’s plans to take in Knoxville Raceway’s opener. A solid qualifying effort and top ten finish was the result at Salina. The WoO competes at Eldora Speedway this Friday and Saturday night.
Mother Nature dictated things on the High Banks Saturday night and it played out in “ludicrous speed”. Driver Kerry Madsen was patient, however, and the car was strong all evening. “With all the rain they had, it was just wide open all night. The track just never had a chance to widen up. It was just all out, all night.”
Early season woes in qualifying seem to be behind the team, and the St. Mary’s, New South Wales, driver was fifth quick in time trials. He would follow that up with a third place run in his heat. “Doing well in qualifying was definitely a positive,” says Kerry. “It was good. The way the format works, we were in a tough position inside row two with the track the way it was to make the top two in the heat. That left us out of the Dash.”
Starting 11th in the main event, Kerry would run a steady race and get in line to finish tenth. “We had a really good racecar all night,” he says. “There was just no passing going on. I was happy that we qualified well, and the car was great every time we hit the track. That is really encouraging heading forward.”
The WoO hits another high speed, high-banked facility this weekend, which bodes well for the Keneric team. A two-night stint at the Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio is in the offing. “I’m really confident going to Eldora,” says Kerry. “I think our team is in a good place right now, and Eldora is a place we’ve run well at.”
