ELKO, Minn. (May 7, 2013) – A new track presents new challenges and a new opportunity, but mostly, it creates a level playing field.
That’s exactly the scenario for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series drivers as they make their inaugural visit to Elko Speedway on Friday for the FVP Outlaws at Elko. It’s the first time the 3/8-mile track, which will be covered in dirt, will host the premier sprint car series.
“In the past if you look, I’ve won at a lot of the new places probably more than anyone else,” said veteran Sammy Swindell, who ranks second on the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series all-time wins list. “So I hope that continues.”
While most drivers on their first visit to a track try to compare it to a different facility they have competed at, Elk River, Minn., native Craig Dollansky has an advantage of watching multiple races at Elko Speedway.
His father and two sons raced on the pavement track, with Craig’s youngest, Garrett, winning a legends car race at the high-banked oval.
“It’s an awesome facility,” Craig Dollansky said. “They’ve got a beautiful grandstand and a bar area set up, so it should be a great experience for the fans.”
The pits open at 2 p.m. and front gates at 4 p.m. with hot laps around 6:30 p.m. and racing at approximately 7:30 p.m.
