(Lebanon, IN) The easy part of Spencer Bayston’s night at the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series US 24 Speedway race ended when he took the lead on lap two. Cordy Horn soon reeled Bayston in to spend the rest of the 30-lap race making repeated attempts to pass Bayston’s UAW/March of Dimes midget.
Horn did make the pass on lap 19, only to have Bayston retake the lead on lap 20. The two drivers contested every corner for the remaining 10 laps, with Bayston finally clearing Horn on the final lap to take the victory with a .348 second cushion.
2012 series Champion Travis Young made it three wide with Bayston and Horn coming off turn 4 on lap 29, only to have a steering arm break sending him on a wild ride through the infield.
Grant Simpson, Jessica Bean and Clayton Gaines rounded out the top 5, following a hard fought battle for the 3rd to 5th spots. Cordy Horn also set a new track record of 12.515 in his heat race.
The USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series returns to Action on May 18th at US 24 Speedway and head to the high Banks of Anderson Speedway on May 22.
