Jumping in the Joe Gaerte owned No. 3G for the weekend, Shane Stewart scored a win on Friday night during the second of twin 25-lap feature events, before a plugged nozzle line knocked him out of Saturday night’s Earl Gaerte Classic in Plymouth, IN.
Getting underway on Friday night, at the Attica Raceway, Stewart and the 3G team were in action for the Eric Phillips 25th Anniversary event with twin 25-lap feature events.
Starting second in his heat race, Stewart got the jump aboard his All Star Performance/XYZ backed machine, and picked up the win, putting him in the fourth row of the first of the twin features.
Struggling a bit in the first feature, Stewart would start where he finished, as he scored a seventh place finish, however as fate would have it, the invert for the second feature was an eight, so by way of his finish, he started on the front row.
When the green waved for the second feature, Stewart dropped the hammer, and grabbed the early lead.
Out in front aboard a new Cool Chassis, Stewart was never seriously challenged until the final few laps where he felt pressure from D.J. Foos.
Though Foos gave Stewart his best effort, Stewart was not to be denied the win, as he picked up his second US win of the season.
“We were much better in the second feature than we were in the first one,” Stewart said. ‘The guys went to work on it after the first race, and the Cool Chassis was rolling pretty good, and we were able to grab a win.”
Fresh off the win, Stewart and the 3G Racing team headed to Plymouth, IN to take part in the Earl Gaerte Classic, a race in honor of his car owner, Joe Gaerte’s father.
In what was an interesting night of events, Stewart’s night was ultimately cut short with mechanical gremlins.
While running in the second spot, something didn’t feel right under the hood, and Stewart elected to pull off as he thought the motor was going away.
“Saturday night I thought we were burning down the motor so I pulled in, and fortunately we only had some nozzle lines plugged up,” he said. “Saturday was an adventure in itself, so hopefully this upcoming weekend is better for us.”
