Tiner Fourth in Watsonville Before Wild Night at Placerville

PETERSEN MEDIA

Pulling double duty over the weekend, Steven Tiner scored a fourth place finish Friday night at the Ocean Speedway aboard the Western Metal No. 37, before a wild night with the Civil War Series at the Placerville Speedway saw him end with a DNF aboard his own Steven Tiner Racing No. 94.

With 22 cars on hand at Watsonville, Tiner opened the night up by earning the Ray Schiedt’s Fast Time Qualifier award.

Lining up in the second row of the first heat, Tiner worked up to the second spot on the extremely racy track, where he would finish and transfer into the feature event.

As the eight pill was drawn to set the invert, Tiner found himself in the fourth row of the 30-lap feature.

When the race went green, the top five broke off, as they raced wheel to wheel for most of the race, as they found themselves in thick lapped traffic.

Hanging in the fourth spot much of the race, Tiner, Bud Kaeding, and Andy Forsberg thrilled the crowd as they dulled for second threw fourth in the closing laps.

When the race concluded, Tiner found himself with a fourth place finish.

Jumping into his own machine, Tiner headed to the Placerville Speedway to take on the California Civil War Series.

With 35 cars on hand, Tiner timed his BR Motorsports/King Racing Products/Elma Lanes machine in with a dismal 22nd quick qualifying effort, though it did put him on the front row of his heat race.

Settling into the second spot, Tiner would find himself in a battle with Andy Gregg late in the heat, but would hold strong to the second spot, and transfer into the feature event, where he started 17th.

On a very slick racing surface, that proved to be a challenge to some drivers, Tiner worked his way inside the top-10 by the 11th lap, but was turned around in turns three and four, and sent to the back.

Restarting from the tail, Tiner began working his way forward again against a very tall cushion, but on the 23rd lap, Bradley Terrell lost his front end going down the back stretch, and collected Tiner, and Tiner’s night was over.

“It was a wild night for sure,” Tiner said. “We did not time in well, so that put us in the back of the feature, and we were going pretty good, but got spun around at the halfway point. We restarted, then unfortunately the 43 car lost a front end and we made some contact with him.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Elma Lanes, Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, Dan Olson Race Prodcuts, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Good Ridge, Schoenfeld, Western Metal Company, and Roseville Precision for their support in 2013.
